Figure Conversion Found in a Junk Box

When you buy a junk box you never know what you will find. I found the above figure in a recent purchase. Previous person who had the figure had taken the right hand off the Marx pioneer with sword and bugle and replaced it with the right hand of colonial running with rifle.  The person who did the conversion used a wire to connect the hand to the arm as you can see from picture instead of glue. Because of the wire the hand rotates. Not the best conversion, I have seen but I will keep it.

I always try to use a wire when converting figures, actually I use parts of a small paper clip, but I also glue it to avoid that spin. Never found a glue that holds up that well, so the wire more often then not keeps the cobverted part in place.

Thanks for the update, I have never tried a conversion due to being very bad at industrial arts. The glue to hold plastic pieces together has been an ongoing debate.

I’ve yet to find a glue that works well over an extended period of time and I’ve tried many different glues, from Testors to Crazy Glue and many other varieties, but they have all let me down. I think next I will try low temp hot glue.

Gary Dutko is a fan of the soldering iron and it seems to work well.

I have heard a soldering iron works to actually melt – weld the peices together.
Since I have not converted figures myself I cannot say if it works

In response to your debate about glue brands for joining converted plastic figures i have never found any that worked very well. i have resorted to epoxy. Often i am joining metal to plastic or even wood if i am placing a base under a mounted figure.
