We start our post by looking at a preview of the Mars Late War British. Next, we look at a new company that is doing two-inch Star Trek figures. Finally, we have a question from roman wondering if some spaceman figures he got are by Co Ma.
Mars Late War British Figures
Once again Mars has come up with an interesting set of British soldiers. The British have been overlooked for various reasons until now, first with Expeditionary Force and now Mars. The set has 8 different poses they are as follows:
Walking Briskle while firing his rifle to the left.
Charging whilefiring his Sten Gun.
Walking with head downn and his rifle pointing to the ground.
The PIAT is interesting. This was an anti-tank weapon that the British used. several Victoria Crosses were awarded for use of this weapon during the war.
Nanoforce Star Trek
Nanoforce is going to offer two different toy soldier-like sets of Star Trek figures. Each set has 12 different figures for $24.95. The first set is based on the original series. The set comes with a bonus Enterprise ship. The other set is based on the Star Trek Next Generation. the figures are 2 inches tall. You can have a further look at these figures here. We thank Rahway for the heads up on these figures.
Expeditionary Force Update
Rahway posted the consumer email, while I get the dealer’s email. My email misses a few things like the upcoming news.
Scot posted this We will look into releasing the remaining supplementary sets to existing ranges during this period. These include:- War of 1812 US cavalry, artillery and command; Canadian voltigeurs, cavalry, artillery and mission Indians; Royal navy and pirates; and the series of sets related to the Alamo scenario. The naval gun is done.
We will continue with our medieval range expansion with men-at-arms in chainmail armor straddling 13th -14th centuries, foot and mounted (with the Hospitaller order in mind), scots schiltron, swiss halberdiers, and Spanish almogavar before going into the Islamic world.
We will commence with the Biblical Wars once I get back into the driver’s seat.
Co Ma Spacemen
Roman sent me some photos of the spacemen he got. He believes they are made by CoMa of Italy. What do you think?
Yes,those are CO. MA.or Coma,Italy
they made several different sets in many scales . The early were made in bakelite material often tranlucent colors, the soft plastic are late 60s .
Some soft plastic sets were sold by others under license as well.
Nanoforce ST 2 sets are from same that made previews fall out sets .These were first show at NYC toy fair in February 2020 and announced in April 2020 as future release along space army green soldiers set no yet released, the pandemic put a lot production in hold or delayed.
I like these but I do not collect star trek and beside these are very non action poses more like movie character miniatures statues to me.So unfortunately I will not go x them.
The EXF men at arms looks great.
I agree many of the Trek figures are not action poses.
The other problem is that they are 2 “ tall rather than
A more useful height of 2 1/4”, aka 54mm.
I must say the new Mars late war British/ Canadian infantry certainly fill a gap. They look readily convertible as well- I see some new paras coming from this set.
It’s also so nice to see a PIAT team. Mars are certainly providing collectors with some interesting new figures. It reminds me of youth and the joy of a new airfix release.
Ex Force is coming out with so many interesting sets. The chainmail figure is unique due to the lack of helmet but wearing the chainmail coif, something we rarely see in plastic. Great for Crusades, Sherrif’s Men and Ivanhoe. Also looking forward to the Battle of New Orleans sets.
The Mars late war Brit/Canadians can also be used for the Korean War.
I agree complete and good points .Full chain mail men at arms or medieval figures so far covered by few Spaniards makers in vintage in French .The Mars British are one of their best and definitely great for Korean, they are getting better in their last sets ,but late period only .I like see 1939-1941 period armies more ,no body cover them .Most new makers only cover 1943-1945 period only with Russian makers only making Russian early 1939 and Finnish army .
Norwegians, Rumanians ,Belgians ,Dutch ,early British infantry that carry many the gas mask and a bit different uniform, French 1940-1942 and Algerian -colonials French troopers ,AXIS German “allied”-Hungarian ,Bulgarian ,Rumanians Early 1940/41 Greeks ,Yugoslavians army and partisan later army ,there so much never covered .The 1941 US army for early pacific campaigns had not been covered ,nor the Filipino and huge large Indian -Asian British colonial armies .Only Atlantic Indians and Airfix Gurkhas were done and now EXF may cover it but in their large scale .Vintage few old makers did some sets but hard to find and never recast .
Every body focus too much in Germans ,Russian ,US infantry/marines post 1942 and Japanese with few Italians .Also barrely none made winter set ,many of the larges battles were fought in pure winter .Long coats and winter jackets figures sets need to be done too.
Mars introduce the fins and few new Germans set not done before but that it is.
The only problem with making Dutch and Poles is that they were only present in those uniforms for a few battles and then gone. Somebody would have to really want to play those scenarios out or want the figures. I don’t think very many collectors want that. Maybe something with a little flexibility to them, so that they can be used for others things, too. Like the Dutch could be vague enough to be used as Romanians, too. AIP is good at that kind of thing. The other thing is, it seems manufacturers are hung up on making Generals and a lot of unlikely poses so that you wouldn’t get anything like a unit out of purchasing 3 or 4 sets, and that’s only IF you wanted to spend that much money on them. If you just want one set to collect dust on your shelf, then maybe that’s OK. We all collect differently. Maybe a poll ought to be taken for what else we REALLY want to see produced?
Greg I agree to certain point and that also is mainly the mentality of any maker in order to sale something fast and not get stock with a lot of everstock .That is the reason none had dare cover them in the 1/32 line .Yet we got Mars making new set of even rarity such Volkssturm and the Japanese marines paratroopers that fought very few action /battles as well ,mainly in only two battles in numbers using the paras uniform and gear made in figures ;yet they are done .Volkssturm while mass conscript fought very few action against allied and mainly in Berlin or around only against Soviets-Polish armies ,all in very short period time (few months only );Yet Mars did a full set of them as well .
US army 1941/42 for Philippines are a very wanted by many US collectors as far I heard from many around in several blogs .While they can cover a very limited period ,it is historical interesting and great to represent least a large battle .Philippines campaign 1941-42 ,a very large campaign battle . Philippines natives regular and guerilla soldiers/civilians made for that period can be used till 1945 as well as they kept pretty much same old uniforms with rare few exceptions .
At FB Mars blog and others polls had been taken already .Mars will try or may go x these not done sets .About other makers I do not know as so far unless EXF no body else is making WW2 sets with exception of expensive Russian brands .
In HO sets many makers had covered the Polish, Dutch ,even Danes army that saw only in single day of extremely poor action -skirmish more likely. .Waterloo 1815 did an HO set of Italian cavalry that saw rare action included ironical one of few largest victories of WW2 cavalry against infantry .I think if is market in HO and for for some rare units such Japanese paratroopers ,it will be too to represent the armies above mentioned and more .
We got Chintoy that spend a lot making many sets of historical character staff only hat have barely use as one set only ,yet they sold out quickly in most .
I’m hoping Mars may cover this and as never covered I bet many not looking for it will go to buy them .
