On our trip to Las Vegas, one of the things we did was go to the Pawn Stars Pawn Shop. It is located on Las Vegas Boulevard down near Fremont Street. The building is very plain on the outside so I had passed it in our previous trips to Las Vegas. I had been warned that it was bad, but it was worse than I imagined.
When we got there at the pawn shop, we found you could park for free. The people in the parking lot were very nice and got us to sign up for a chance to win a free V.I.P. tour of the shop. We were also offered free tickets to a Las Vegas show (more on that later)
We walked in and looked the place over. The amount of pawn inventory was much less than you see on the show. There was at least 10 employees in the store, but none of the stars, which I figured on. I found out why they photograph the one way on the show. In the show people will come to the long row of glass cases and in the background is the door. The reason they film that way is if they photographed the other way you would see the Pawn Star merchandise such as bobble heads and mouse pads. One woman was buying a mouse pad so she could prove to her friends she had been at the store.
The store is much smaller than it looks beyond the Pawn Star merchandise, they had a motorcycle. One employee was trying to sell a bar of silver for $2800.00. I noticed an SAE orange box, which I had seen on several episodes. I asked the price of the set which was either British or South African troops. The price was $125.00, which I passed on. I checked later with dealers and found it either on the mark or too high.
We walked out and were pressured by the parking lot attendants to go over and get our free tickets. I knew what was coming next, instead of giving us our free tickets, they push discounted tickets to certain shows. When Laurie asked what were the free tickets, the man pulled out tickets to a hypnotist, which we passed on. we walked back to our car and headed on the way.
