On Saturday November 2,2013, I went to my closest toy show the Allentown Toy Show. I arrived at the show a few minutes before it opened. I was surprised to find the line a little longer than last year. It was still not like the old days, when the line went around the building. I got in and headed down the first row to see my old friends the Kozlowski’s. They are three brothers who I have know over thirty-five years and have bought from them many interesting items. One of the most interesting items I bought was a leather Tyrannous Rex that is four feet tall for Laurie. (Laurie was not with this year as she had to work.) This year I picked up some items that Rich was holding for me and Bob had a mixed lot including some covered wagons. I left the brothers and started to check the aisles. I ran into Bill Graver and got from him a lot of Reisler figures. Reisler made hard plastic figures in Denmark and I like to pick them for the international market. I walked the aisles some more and noticed several tables were empty. The show had removed several tables from the north end of the show. I looked at some tables and felt the prices were either high or the items were stale (the items were carried by the dealer for a while.) There were several playsets at the show, a Marx Super Circus, two story western town no box and Marx Pet Shop missing a leash and three people $450.00.
I kept walking and saw a few people I know Dean who did two Lipitor Commercials, Kerry Dunable and Tom Stein. Kerry had plastic figures but nothing I need. Another dealer Will had a nice selection of plastic figures which I picked a nice lot. Tom got some Marx dark blue pioneers and asked me if they were reissues. I told them that Glencoe had only got a few of the pioneer poses and never did that color.. John Reichl later told me that Tom had gotten a Marx Captain Gallant playset the previous week at Adamstown. John was in the back row, where I used to share a table with him. John was by himself with a nice selection of plastic.
After one walk around I spent most of my time talking to the Kozlowski’s or John. I did see some other people I knew Mike Merwine and his wife. Mike had collected plastic figures now he makes metal miniature replicas of various building around the world. I met a new person E.B. Havens, who is GI Joe collector/ dealer. Havens had heard that Jordan Hembrough of Toy Hunter was suppose to be at the show. I told him that Jordan was in California. E.B. related that Jordan bought some knock off G.I. Joe clothing. He also said he was contacted by Pawn Stars for a price on a G.I. Jane doll. E.B. gave a price of $400.00 which was less than what they bought it. Both Rich and I said how bad the stores location in regards to contact.
After about three hours at the show, I headed out to get ready for the next day.
