BMC Toys Army Women Update

Plastic Platoon Updates

“We started using new material and latest technologies to truly drain VIM level and plastic miniature.
The project is rapidly gaining momentum and in the near future, we will show in which direction we are moving.
We will post photos of two sets in rubber ready for circulation and several sets of master models that will be released in the coming months.
About 10 sets of infantry and equipment are also in development.
The mission of our project-soldiers should unite. Bringing together friends, partners, and just strangers fans of our hobby around the world.”
How odd that a set with one of the largest number of poses ever is one with a relatively limited appeal. It’s a novelty, to be sure, but it’s not based on a historical army and I’m not entirely sure how many little girls will be interested in toy soldiers. Not even many little boys play with them today. And who are they supposed to fight? This is a huge gamble for BMC and could make or break the company. They have brought back so many great sets from the past and given us some really nice new pieces. BMC has done a lot for the hobby. Hope this doesn’t “tank”.
I think it will be a big seller.
I disagree, on the basis of they are anachronistic, no battle has ever consisted of all women……
Speaking of “tanks’ they can re-pro the 51 tank anytime.
I asked them to do in scale, tanks for their Vietnam era tim mee figures, i would like to see them go for more poses and in scale vehicles, the era of marx playsets are over, would like to see a return to form……
I agree, i even wrote them, and told them this, myself……
calling it a Novelty is being nice….. i wrote bmc and asked them to make new poses to go with the old Vietnam era tim mee’s, we never got berets, or m14’s we could see some alternate poses, and recast poses with new features, in the age of compute graphics and 3d modeling anything is possible, but they decided to go the simple uninspired direction…..i would much rather have in scale, eastern bloc soviets to fight with ak’s…. or 1/32 dien bien phu paratroopers, those all fit the era……..
Little girls aren’t interested in army men, and that’s okay…. i think its cool to see new poses always… but i hope these aren’t over sized, and make all my other figures look tiny, these over stylized figures don’t always go over, i want to see 1/32 scale come back instead of 1/30, i need some more tim mee vietnam era figures to work with, we only have 2 shooting poses, not including the bazooka man…….i don’t know why they didn’t try to make a 1/32 scaled bag of army men more in line with marx or tim mee while they had the chance…….
I like the Mars future release U.S. Airborne! I do have one pet peeve though, it bothers me to see the Thompson and or the Grease Gun fired while holding the magazine. The Grease Gun magazines were a weak link to the weapon – they were prone to jam and have feed problems if held that way. They were designed to be held by the magazine well; true your lower finger may have rested on the magazine, but the weapon was secured by holding onto the frame/lower receiver of the weapon. Same goes for the Thompson which either had a vertical or horizontal forearm. Just saying your asking for a malfunction by firing a weapon holding it solely by the magazine. That being said, guess I have to remember they are just toy soldiers and other than that these Paratroops look pretty good to me. I will be getting a set when they come out.
I have to second that ‘pet peeve’. The ‘they’re just toy soldiers’ defense doesn’t work for figures made these days. They cost more and tout their accuracy as a selling point. The Thompson is especially a no-go for using the magazine as a grip. Take a look at one without a magazine in it. It doesn’t even have a magazine well. You got to use the fore grip. I’m also wondering about the ‘hey-look-at-me green’ reinforcing patches on the uniforms.
Dittos on the magazine “grip.” They also have the “wrong” patch ;-). But I can forgive and correct that. I will definitely buy at least a set. I really have no choice.
