I don’t recall seeing many Napoleonics, especially foot figures, with pistols so the Mrs flag bearer is a nice change although I would associate pistols more with officers.
He might be an ensign. They carried the colors.
Ensign? My fallback thought. Thanks for confirming.
Well. what to say about the Napoleonics..
First the standard bearer is obviously an officer.
You can see tassles for his sash on his left hip. Shoulder wings etc..
The other officer. My real favourite. I like the dynamic pose,
But…Two musicians. Two Officers and four other ranks most of whom appear to have no tunic lace. Not a good box balance.
All shakos also appear to have no plume.
Hopefully these are just test shots and the missing detail will be rectified.
Would I buy them?.
Possibly but just for the challenge of painting the officers.
Hope everyone is staying safe.
Cheers
Alan
I don’t think British infantry regiments even had buglers at that time, only fifes and drums.
And muskets?
I love the MPC dinosaurs set, especially the blue triceratops (if I have identified it correctly) which has been my favourite dinosaur ever since one appeared in the unlikely setting of a Dan Dare story in one of the early Eagle annuals. However the best figure has to be the mammoth. In all the dinosaur sets that have appeared over many years, I have never seen a mammoth, so this wonderful inclusion is overdue.
Mars figures are well known x poor detail and wrong depiction in uniform often plus simple done and poor finish product with plenty excess in plastic from bad quality mold sealing.
The last British set have uniforms full of errors and many noticed it right away..yet they sale as that their figures and not care. I doubt much they will fix any mistake and these are what they will sale.
Many take any figure coming as granted as is as not in to historic detail and prefer as generic to use as others.
For those in to accuracy and detail Mars is the least. For those looking figures with out much detail ,economic and good amount action poses plus diversity Mars is good
My thoughts
If like the French set, the Mars British sets will have one of each of the command group; officer, flag bearer, bugler & drummer + a mix of 11 riflemen in the 4 poses shown getting between 2 and 4 of each pose. The Mars sets are very popular with the recent WWII sets (Finnish army, Russian Infantry and Russian Assault Troops) all selling well.
I think it’s a price v. quality tradeoff. For the price (at current prices) Mars quality is getting better and many consider them worth it. As beautiful as they are, it’s quite expensive to build an army – particularly an 18 – 19th Century Army with figures such as PP and EB. If nothing else, these Brits might paint up nicely and fill out and add to my current Airfix ranks – if they’re of compatible size.
And I agree, Mars has not included two of each pose in a box; you’ll likely get a command group of one each and multiples of the various “action” poses. It’s what they’ve been doing lately anyway.
I agree Mars has a way to go quality-wise, but they are upping their game to a passable level and I applaud that.
I agree the quality may be getting better in some sets so is in the poses too.
In napoleonic uniform errors is a big concern
They had done twice the mistakes in both british sets uniform.they need improve it.
It won’t take too much simple research effort to do it right.
They just produced them as that because they don’t care as far are simple collectors and buyers who buy some sets w errors or not.
Same way BMC sets are bought w odd poses and errors in many because price.
My thoughts.
Best
Please note that it’s the British Army, as there are Scots, Irish and Welsh as well as English ones, theoretically is is no English Army
hence the multitudes of crosses on the flag.
bugles were used by light infantry regiments
Loved seeing the MPC Prehistoric stuff! I’ve got my share, mixed w/ Marx and Sinclair and a few other onsies. I’ve never seen the Mammoth done in brown for MPC. I’d seen the older ones in flat blue and grey, newer were metallic blue. A nice find! I painted all mine brown except for one Marx Mammoth that was a whitish grey. That’s the herd’s big granny.
Will Mars be making Napoleonic Scottish troops and French light infantry also Prussians.
Bugles were used by Rifle and Light Infantry Regiments. Each line infantry regiment had a light company that probably had bugles for signalling. I am not sure if this held true for Highland (kilted) units.
Have just got the Mars ww2 Russian Infantry they are great. With unusual poses a lovely set look forward to seeing the other sets coming out.
