The people at Boing Boing posted a great article on the history of ketchup.  You will learn ketchup started as a fish sauce, why it was in a clear bottle and much more.

Well- what fun to catch up on the history of ketchup! Of course had I been asked to name the original recipe, I would have chosen up-chuck rather than ke-tchup.

I myself don’t like ketchup. But I am a big fan of the Schaumberg Hyatt-Regency’s all-you-care-to-eat breakfast buffet, which may be just about the best in metro-Chicago, and possibly the country, and which I expect to be enjoying for at least two mornings in about 3 weeks. I need it to sustain me as I spend the day going from room to room! My annual OTSN fever is starting to build. I don’t know why I get this way. My parents bought me a fair number of Marx playsets and other toy soldiers as I was growing up, but for some reason I never could quite get all I wanted. With today’s prices, I still can’t, but I am able to indulge myself a little bit more than when I was 6 years of age.

Ed, your room is near the top of my list. And so is that of your friend, Rich Egan.

First thing, Friday morning. Right after Hyatt’s breakfast buffet. I’ll be hitting the deck (or the rooms) running. I’ll be rooming this year with collector Bill Skinner, from Niles, Michigan. Bill’s a longtime collector whose photo is on page 11 of the last issue of Playset Magazine (July/August Issue #70), along with Paul Gruendler. Of course, the picture was taken in 1983 at the home of Ron Angleton and includes Steve Lutz, Gene Worms, and Bruce Scott, all of whom are still active in the hobby, 30 years later, so we’ve all aged a bit since then.

Good old Stryker ( Ron Engelton). I’ll be open Thursday late afternoon or early evening. I’ll be loaded up with just about everything I have. Since I only have to travel 15 miles I can fit more in the car, as my partner drives his own all loaded up.
