AIP Confederate
Yippee! – at last a question I can answer.
The French WW1 soldier came in an individual, cellophane fronted box. He was glued to the cardboard base of the box – the wooden stand is a later addition.
I bought my example (still in his box by the way) in 1998 at the Historial de la Grand Guerre in Peronne near Paris on my return from a visit to the Verdun battlefield.
This was pre euro days and he was priced at 39f.
I have a photo if it is of interest.
Welcome, Maurice,
I am glad I could give you a question to answer. Once you mention the box it came back to me how they were sold. I wonder who put the figure on the base and why. Sadly it will a mystery we will never get an answer for. Yes, you are very welcome to send photos for the site to me at pestad@gmail.com
Interesting about Hitler figure been pulled.Yet Atlantic far more political set (SA march) has not and very abundant .In metal and composition you can find as many Hitler figures as else made and sold at shows,eBay else.
my thought
The Atlantic Hitler political sets are abundant because most shop owners did not display them in their stores and kept in the backroom. That is why they are easier to find.
That may be case in other countries .
In Italy they were displayed all over with all symbols ,same as Mussolini sets.It is stated in Atlantic two books as a interesting fact and they sold very good in the painted version window case or not painted version with set paint along to be paint if like .
In fact many Italian collector look x complete set a lot now as hard find there because most kept or sold off too much back then .
There was not issue with it in Italy till 2017 when parliament push to ban any memorabilia, toy else advertising fascism and Nazi stuff . Yet is in the legal battle still. …
Italy is one few countries were toys with symbols are not prohibited .Many original Atlantic set made for Italy market with German soldiers sets in it carry German war crosses( Balkenkreuz) and Swastikas in packing .They edited the traditional yellow cases and others for exports because of it .
The political set in many cases were exported out with cases/packing white out or covering the symbol .Still the name of set clearly says what is .
best
I remember in the 90’s a whole bunch of the Atlantic SA sets were at the shows. One dealer had a stack and I got 8 sets at $9 a shot. After using them as a last ditch SA unit for a while, I couldn’t stand the big heads on them and sold everything off, minus the Kuebelwagen. I made my money back and then some and still have the 8 Kuebelwagen. 4 are painted grey and 4 are painted desert tan. I am sure that made some collectors cringe.
I believe that the AIP figure you want to know about is from their Butternut Confederate Infantry set
Thanks I spotted it now on the Armies in Plastic site.
It’s in grey, too. The sets are the same poses done in 2 colors. The regular grey Confederate infantry may be out of stock now, but this example here is certainly grey.
