Odds Ends Two Foreign Western Figures

Odds Ends Two Foreign Western Figures, I continue my look at various western figures. I also have a response from Rusty Kearns of Playset Magazine to an email I sent him to see how he and Kathy are doing.

Odds Ends Two Foreign Western Figures

Odds Ends Two Foreign figures
My next two photos are cowboys waving. This figure is waving his hat. He could be used in many different stories. e could be waving a contest or having to get attention. Like so many figures I haven’t an idea who made him.
Odds Ends Two Foreign Waving
Another waving cowboy could be telling someone to stop. The other unknown figure is a shot figure. I feel he is warped.
two Indians
The Indian on the left is a French premium. It looks like the name on the front is Prime Brisee. The Indian on the left kneeling with the bow is another figure I don’t know who made and where I got it. do you have that problem?

Other Figures

Converrsion figure
I don’t know if this figure is a conversion figure or not. If it is a conversion figure I feel it is based on the Marx 54mm two gun cowboy. What do you think?
Cannons
Here is two more cannons from my collection. The cannon on the left is usually seen with a pencil sharper. The one on the right should be a BMC cannon. Their cannons are a cheap way to add to artillery force for various periods of history.
skeleton warrior
Over the last few years, we have gotten a number of skeletons warriors. It is very likely due to the Pirates of the Caribean movies. this figure is 60mm. He is nice with a sword and a shield.

Message from Rusty

I wrote to Rusty of Playset Magazine. He replied back and I want to share his thoughts.

Hi Paul and thanks for asking. For sure we are doing very well. Publishing the magazine we do not have schedules that allow for getting out and so that has not changed too much. 11 new subscribers since COVID began, we’re shipping as many as 6 books a day so Kathy is very busy. Ron Barzso, Len Hardt, and I have been completing the new ‘Barzso Playsets’ book — every figure, every set, every accessory, and rarity. To me, this is the hard part, review and check over and over.  Our studio “downtown” (it’s in Old Colorado City, across from a place where Bat Masterson used to deal cards!) is still open if we need it, but its nothing I want to mess with right now! We too walk… we have a new dog “Trooper” who is driving that, and the walks are sometimes an hour or longer when we can.  I am opening and re-exploring a lot of my playsets, and we just finished a diorama for the Johnny Tremain set. So we’re really busy and having a lot of fun. My very best wishes to you, and wonder when you will grace us with some more of your knowledge and perhaps an article!

    Dear Paul,

thanks for the figure photos and questions. Seems you opened your Frech figure box. Just some few remarcs:
The cowboy waving with hat is a sp copy of Starlux. Probably from a cheap.line or pirate-copy. The French collectors call them “Figurines de Bazaar” to indicate the semi-legal copyright connections.
The standing cowboy waving with his right hand holding a rifle was made by Cyrnos, France.
The wounded by a (broken) arrow next to him is a copy of a Britains swoppet Indian who got a cowboy head, done by Goma, Spain. He was a mounted figure before he was copied.
The walking Indian is also a French figure, which was used by Cafe Legal as a give- away figure. Other firms later made also use of the attractive pose and used him for thei00r products as give-aways (Cafe Maurice, Prime Brissé etc.).
The kneeling Indian with bow shadowing eyes is Toumoulage, also a French maker. Unpainted figures were used as give-aways with chocolate. Painted version were sold in Germany by a retailer under the name “Plasticum”. Plasticum bought the figures from France and got them painted in Germany.
    Greetings!

Thank you for the corrections and updates. It is very interesting about the kneeling Indian. It sounds like I picked him up in Germany on one of my trips.

The cowboy waving his hat you could have with a cattle drive. Sounds great news about the Barzso Playsets book. Would love to have one of them. We miss seeing Ron at the shows we go to.

The waving hat cowboy I picked up in bag with other Starlux copies back in the early 80s in Bolounge, France.
They had an Oliver (Spain) header card.
I had only ever seen these particular figures on sale in France, never Spain
Perhaps Oliver did them as a special run of a cheap line to be sold on the French market.

  4. ERWIN SELL says:

Cowboys are by Reymont (Creaciones Reymont) -Spain who was well known for coping many others included other Spaniard makers, they copy elastolin, starlux, cofalu and even Marx but they did some original sets as well like the african and pygmy warriors plus Tarzan .
Later OLiver acquire Creaciones Reymont molds as it absorb the company and repack sold along former Pech Hermanos sets that Oliver acquired much earlier as well for recast with new redone bases designed by Oliver .
Oliver never produced it own toy soldiers figures, cowboys ,army or action figure with exception of 13 romans poses made in 60 to 75 mm scale for the roman nativity sets playset made along with King Herod.
All their(Oliver) figures were the sets from PH molds and also of Creaciones Reymont sets .These cowboys along other 8 poses indians copies starlux as well are still around in bags with multicolor mix poses off todocollecion site often and some time Ebay sellers off Belgium,France and Germany as well .
