Cane Figures Part Two Greg Liska

Cane Figures Part Two, I continued our look at Cane from Frederico Salvi. Next, GregLiska gives an update on what he is doing. Finally, I finished up my tribute to Word Press.

Cane Figures Part Two Musketeer

Cane Figures Part Two Musketeer
Another set by Cane is the Three Musketeers plus D’Artagnan and Cardinal Richelieu. The Three Musketeers were written by Alexander Dumas and adapted in many forms. I like these figures were done by Elio Simonetti especially Richelieu with the cat rubbing against his leg.
Custer figure
In my last post, I show one of the calvary figures. Frederico sent another cavalry figure which he called General Custer. They did it in blue and gray. What do you think of them?

Cane Figures Part Two More Simonetti Figures

Chinese figures
These figures would not be part of the toy soldiers and more the decorative market. they are still interesting to look at.
Indian Goddess
Another decorative piece is this Indian Goddess. I amazed the amount of work that Elio Simonetti did in his career.

Greg Liska Stuck in Saudi Arabia

I mention that Greg Liska was doing one more tour of duty. Today, I got an email from Greg and he is stuck in Saudi Arabia due to the virus. He is said the country is a lockdown and he is stuck as there are no flights out. The hotel only gives him two meals a day. His sanity has been save besides my site, he has access to Ebay. He managed to get all the Ideal Battle Action special poses and even got 4 shell handlers. Greg realized his plans for an Ideal figure artillery battery when he gets out of Saudi Arabia. He is looking for a Timmee Russian with an ammo bag. Can you help him?

Word Press Plugins

As we wind up the month, I would like to mention one of the nice aspects of Word Press plugins. “A plugin is a piece of software containing a group of functions that can be added to a WordPress website.” There are thousands of Plugins, I have two main ones. The first one is Askimet which protects the site from spam. In the nine years, Askimet has blocked over 198,000 pieces of spam. The other is Yoast which is helping me with my search engine optimizing. I have plans for the coming year to work and make the site better. I want to thank all who have helped and you the reader.

  1. Hi Paul. Word Press offers a lot of features to use. I love using it for my blog page too.

  2. They are lovely elegant dancers.

Custer looks overly elegant to the point of femininity.

    In my personal opinion/views ..
Elio Simonetti was as Romanesque/Renaissance with part of contrapposto style artist that made sculpture of antiquity, mythological and nativity figures made in composition, resin and stone types first .
CANE as well other Italian toy makers use him as a matter of quality sculptor for their business as demand had hire used some others already .
His style was also alike copied by few other artists .While the style looks what some see as effeminate or not (Nothing wrong to me with that by the way);in my opinion is an astonishing deep sculpture unique style making mini statues plastic figures more alegoric than typical action toy plastic figurines. His depiction were ideally and intentional made as such rather than standard toy soldiers more movie-historical style sculpture designed.Viking,Alpini ,Musketeers, pirates in 70 mm and US cavalry made in 54mm NOT 70mm as some incorrectly says ,were made in that style. but the last Cane set .Napoleonic set; was made base in already two sets of resin previews made sculpture carry in to be made with some variation as plastic poses in 70 mm scale with napoleon pose well represented in two poses ,early general and later Emperor .This sets-series 6 poses has most poses in style not alike previews work of Simonetti with poses much less”effeminate -else style depicted” but rather more typical standard toy soldiers made …
CANE itself produce several sets copies or base in not Simonetti design but others such Marx and Elastolin in order to increase their action poses line to accommodate more with the typical series of “toy soldiers” rather than mini statues in plastic as those of Simonetti.
To me all of Simonetti sets have a personal unique charm in my collection and some can well be used as standard poses while others are statues or more odd poses in many other collectors views.
While many Simonetti poses looks a bit odd ,the anatomical concept line of body and movement are quite acceptable and correct depicted versus many toy soldiers makers such some of Cherilea and Conmansi odd poses made that are far imposible anatomical conceived or hard to recreate in real life…..

    My thoughts

The figures are decorative, artistic, but not good toys, in my opinion. Custer looks like he needs to take that act over to Thailand. There was a dealer who used to show up at the Atlanta show for years who had tons of Cane, Atlantic and other Italian figures. He did a lot of business in Europe for his regular job and he bumped into a treasure trove. I picked up a lot of the Cane copies of the Marx WoW Romans and some figures that were perfect scale-downs of Marx 6″ Japanese soldiers. They were about 70mm and I have them in with my Lido Japs now. Cast in a flat yellow, I did end up painting them flat tan. Anybody know what company did these? Did they do any other Marx 6-inchers?

    • ERWIN F SELL says:

Japanese 70 mm are by Cane.
Not reissued or imported here in 90s with the few CANE reissues.
The other Japanese copies of Marx base in the 3″ scale poses not the 6″ but down scale to 54mm were sold here by various dealers and are by PRB Italy.
      Again long gone.

I am not sure I understand. The 3″ scale Japanese by Marx? Never heard of them. I know of the 6 inchers that were done in 4″, but the poses are identical. There may be some close in details that are different, which I think would be fairly natural. WST released some 54mm (or slightly smaller) versions of the 6″ poses. I believe these were originally molds done in Hong Kong and released years before that. I’m looking for more of those Japanese figures. WST turned them out in a slightly flatter MPC Jap yellow.
While I’m at it – Erwin, you don’t have any more resin copies of the Timmee Russian carrying the ammo can, do you?

    • ERWIN F SELL says:

      Greg.
I think the Marx you referring as 4″ are in reality from 3″ to max 3.5 no 4″ .Germans are by far the tallest close to 4 or more ‘ and with not match size head body versus rest line 3’ Marx did some times odd scales sets versus other ,not quite match blend well .
Here are 3 sets LOT x sale reissues i have listed ,see the differences between scales and disparity

      https://www.ebay.com/itm/323891652599
The same goes marines, cowboys, germans and Indians along Japanese of exact series made by Marx.
No .The poses in 6″ and 4″ are not all same.Japanese set 3′ has a lot differences versus 6′
Look at Kent link to see many samples .
      http://www.angelfire.com/biz/toysoldierhq/Marxpost1898.html
The 54mm verssion copies sold years ago are not from HK .least one i have and sold .

I sold recently several left over bags of then and were made in Italy along germans ,Americans and Russian.
I did a post w plenty photos compare here few years back.
      I still have photos somewhere.
I have one pose each now left
CTS sold out their last sets I think…

Japanese copies were made in pale yellow.German.light grey. Russian light green.Marines in OD .
Again base in 3-4″ not the 6″ Marx x Japanese.

The Marx 3″ poses are still reissues from molds still in mexico along germans and Gi,S
Cane 70 mm Japanese are the one cloned from Marx 6″if not mistaken.
      I need check again .
But I guess is like that.
About TM Recast you did. I have none left. Sorry
      Will keep watch any how.
      Best regard

Erwin – I just looked at both links. It’s the same 6 poses in what Kent lists as “3-4 inch” as well as the eBay link. Any difference would take a lot of close scrutiny.
I had thought about getting a bunch of Germans to be enemies against my Timmee Commies, but they are way too big. If they aren’t 4 inch, they are not far off.

  7. ERWIN F SELL says:

    Greg.I don’t know if i understood you well .
To make sure i just want to clear up again my answers means and was about the fact 3″ set and 6″G.M in japanese are different poses and not at all in any mini detail …
The japanese 6″G.M (15.5MM) by Marx and the 3″ poses Marx all are very different each other set in all poses.
Please look well only only at Kent website link for both sets ,one come first other if scroll down come lower .Also The HO japanese Marx set poses are more alike the 6″ also i think

My ebay link is the marx 3″ reissues of all 3 to 4′ marx WW2 sets and Kent site has the 3″ and also the 6″ list as Marx Goldmarx series in painted version .
The 54 mm version made in Italy i sold recently in bags are base in the 3″ poses not the 6″ poses .
No ;the Marx call-label 3″ are in fact 4′ and their body too bulky versus TM ;my sale ebay link show very clear how bog versus 3″ japanese they look .
The tallest best match german can get versus the TM RUSSIAN are Cherilea,Elastolin and the new EXF. I have all those and match perfect ,both are not cheap neither too crazy ..
Other than that PH from Spain but way hard to get

The four-inch are copies of the six-inch figures and showed up from Mexico.

    • ERWIN F SELL says:

Yes Greg as i say i was talking about Gold Marx in 6″ and you were talking about the simple 6″ reg,we went for two different sets ,that all.
S Weston sold the same i did in bags as well CTS sold too made in Italy ,those 54 mm are copies with some odd detail missing ,not as pristine detail are hard get around .The one large lot i got mint come from Italy one seller and i resold a lot .Never seen again .Never seen any marx ww2 HK version other than germans and few Gi’s made sold under Helm .
Recently a chinese company release a very well done clone of some marx germans poses mix with airfix in bags ,same in Russian ,upon close look as i acquire bags they blend perfect with original.is first time i see chinese copies of Airfix so close to original as well Marx .

Well, things have gotten worse. Complete lock down curfew 24 hours a day in Riyadh. Looks like I’ll be hand washing my laundry here in the hotel room. When things get like this, there is only one thing to do……….. buy those AIP ACW figures and build those Zouave and Hardee hat wearin’ Federal regiments.

I won’t be enjoying anything until I can get home. I’m hoping that’ll be NLT early July. I’m admittedly engaging in comfort buying. I won’t see or touch any of it until I manage to get back home. My ‘happy place’ in all of this is that I’m making money while I sit here.
