Stad’s Toy Figure Collection Robby the Robot

Stad’s Toy Figure Collection, I get a chance to share some more items from my collection. This time I will show some non-figure items besides some figures.

Stad's Toy Figure Collection Robby
Besides collecting toy soldiers, I have collected comic books. and science fiction items. I attended various comic books and science fiction cons. At one of the science fiction cons, I picked up the wooden Robby the Robot. Like many of you, I love the movie “Forbidden Planet“. So when I saw this figure and he was 54mm I had to have him.

Some Non-Figure Items

military Police
Going through the collection, I found this tin litho car. It was from my childhood. I have no idea when I got it. You press down on the backend let go. I did not play much with it as I did not have room to let it run. It is something I will keep as it gives me good memories.
covered wagon
At one of the Marx shows at Wheeling West Virginia, I spotted this small metal covered wagon. It brought back another one I had many years ago. it was one of the items that were with me when I was in the hospital when I was five years old. I was in the hospital for 16 days for a kidney infection. I do not know what happened to the original one, so this was a welcome addition.

Some Other Figures

Stad's Toy Figure Collection Cane
As I said in the previous post, we will be showing more Cane from Frederico Salvi. I would like to show one of my favorites figures from Cane. It is the calvary figure with a pistol. I just like the pose. I had seen it in a catalog and kept my eyes out for him. I picked him up at a European show. If I was doing my stories he would have been a sidekick to one of the heroes.
Starlux prehistoric
Finally, I found that I had one of Laurie’s Starlux prehistoric figures up in the collection. One of the great things is having Laurie along at the shows. not only does she spotted things for me, but we also find items for her. She has always love dinosaurs so it is fun when finding an item she likes. Hopefully, we will back out there hunting for things again soon.

Paul, I really like the Cane figure. It’s a very dynamic pose, with nice details like the gauntlets and rank stripes. I wish we’d see more of them here in the States.

As far as I know, the Cane figures did not into the states until the 90’s when Peter Bergner got them and he sold to various dealers in the states. He did not get the cavalry figures.

I do not think the Cavalry mold was taken over or bought by company got recast some mold in 80s from Cane.i forgot the name this company that sold in NYC fair and others as well some CANE recast molds sets ,some sets such napoleonic and these were never reissued ,not even the japanese,US GI’s and COWBOYS-INDIANS base in Marx were not reissued too.I will verify with italian friends soon …
The mold from former Cane carry and sold here were Romans ,Viking ,turks, musketeers and Pirates and out of the 5 only the last two been made by Simoneti, others 3 copies of Elastolin and Marx.
Cane made two different US cavalry set ,first one were copies poses base in Britain swivel set poses ACW figures sold as US cavalry and grey/blue as ACW released in 1971-72 and these designed by Simoneti in 6 poses set including Custer that are true US cavalry by uniform ,yet were sold unpainted in grey and blue as well to make looks as ACW as many makers did with many US cavalry sets as well .released in 1974

In the paperwork, I got from the company Giacometti at the Nuremberg toy Fair 1992 they showed pictures of the army figures 45mm no base and the cavalry. If they were at the NY Toy fair the only items that I aw in the U.S. were the 54mm cowboys and Indians which were sold in Woolworth’s. If they sold any others it must have been regional.

          • I have the downscale Marx six inch knights made in 54mm. They are in a header card bag marked Woolworths & Woolco & Made in Italy. Anybody know anything about them? Were the Marx copy Knights, cowboys & Indians also made in England and used as premiums? I have also seen the knights copied in 70mm and attributed to Cane.

            Kent ..
Tibidabo should be responsible for the copies cloned or base from Marx 6″poses or down scaled to 54 mm .
I can do pose by pose match compare x admin to show /post
They sold it with the TIBIDABO castle that along with one very alike-NO same sold by Cherilea castle are direct base COMANSI -Spain castle made in late 50s originally .The knights sold with TIBIDABO castle are partially painted. They were sold in window boxes .Later unpainted in silver and gold in bags of 12 or more usually. The
This mold was lease ,sold or else to Walco company who distribute then abroad from Europe as more economical cheap way than for TIBIDABO do it back then .To avoid high tax export -sales impose in Italy back then .
They TIBIDABO are the makers of cowboys and indians base in Marx poses down scaled to 54 mm also attributed to “Rubinstein”!? .
Woolworths & Woolco .Was the 1983-1987 approx time frame logo mame used by Walco after been liquidated absorbed by Woolworth in US but not Canada ,the distributor logo was used x some more years after as stock packs were still in warehouses …
They sold distribute from their main bases warehouse in UK,Canada and US and did business with Rubenstein ,Gresge -Former later Kmart and Walmart and most sold off to Walmart -Target much after .
Woolworths & Woolco & Made in Italy card bags are still often found mint off ebay off canaada ,UK else as old stock not painted cowboys, indinasand knights were often stock till late 80s early 90 s.
            About CANE
They are not related to TIBIDABO or Marx same mold or exact copies and not attributed but officially patent designed and register by CANE -as the following as extracted from Cane italian data base company PDF file records shows .
            Set-1315 (Brevetto # 204, 1831, 1035): Crociati, anno-1968, 6 pose.

CANE Knights – sold as crusades originally are cloned from Marx 6′ ,not from the 54mm version alike made by Marx but CANE Marx Romans copies are not clone of Marx, the poses have some minor variation and detail ,specialty in romans a lot versus Marx romans 60 mm and the 6″ .
CANE 70 mm knights version sets were sold painted and not painted under Barabelli-A italian distributor rather than maker of other italian else brand toys.

            best regards

Robbie the Robot was one of my favorites when I was a kid, too. My older brother and I used to sit up and watch “Forbidden Planet” and all those sci-fi movies on Saturday nights when we were kids. That toy Robbie brings back some memories.

I admit that since seeing MST3K’s treatment of the movie I have to snicker a bit, too.

    Thanks for the share.

I have to agree with OIF-Retread’s comments on the Cane figure. I am often put off by some of the posing of European figures; this one really works. I think he would bring personality and life to any scene one put him in.

  3. Mark McNamara says:

Wow ! That cane figure looks like illustrations from European comic books !NICE !
