Odds Ends Toy Trade Shows Preview

My very good friend Peter Evans reminded me of the upcoming annual event toy trade shows. Starting next week, the season will start in London then go to various other locations including Numenberg and New York City. Peter will be attending the London show and also Birmingham Gift Show. I will be watching the New York Show. Both Peter and I do not have big hopes on anything new showing up in figures.

The toy industry is in trouble. Sales were off last Christmas. Target blamed toys as one of the reasons they did not make the fourth quarter protections. The stores are playing it safe carrying safe and licensing items.

Still, there is a chance of something will turn it up. We will report it and other items in a timely manner not dragging it out six months. So stay tuned.

Odds Ends Toy Trade Shows MPC Russians
For most of us in our childhood, the only Russians we had were the MPC Russians. The set had eight different poses. The only missing pose in the above pose is the waving. The figures were done in steel blue. In 1982, the MPC Russians were done in a light blue for a playset called by World Patrol. It was done by Miner, who had bought MPC. The light blue do not turn up often.
Ideal Colonial
Ideal did a series of bagged sets. The set contained a plastic fort front and two litho walls. Also, the sets had figures and accessories. One of the bagged set was Valley Forge. The plastic fort front had a spot where the different signs could be put. This was done so the fort front could be used in other sets. The figures were done in red and blue. This way they could represent colonials and red coats. Ideal had Revolutionary War figures, Mexicans and pioneers in the same frame. The set had five different colonials

I had two of the Ideal sets as a kid, one Alamo front and another was a log fort front, forget the name of the fort. I remember the two figures pictured as well as a marching Mexican, but cannot remember the rest. Perhaps someone could, for old times’ sake post some pictures of the other figures? I remember liking them a lot, but being a little sad that they were so much bigger than my other figures. What were they 70mm, maybe?

Erwin, do you know if the JH astronauts were ever run in gold or bronze plastic? I have dim early childhood memories (late 60s early 70s) of seeing a table piled full of loose 1/32 gold space figures similar to these for a couple of cents each and also unlabeled plastic bags of about 50-100 of the same spacemen that the store had put together from the loose figures and were selling for one dollar. This store carried a lot of other JH toys at that time.

The original made by JH astronauts were sold also as premium by three more marks-Companies also ,they run then in many colors Both colors you mention could well been made by then….. .
Original JH were made with out base first in order to fit well in lunar terrain made and with accessorizes if place with then . They run then in gold as far i recall as well and there is a 40 mm scale version made in W Germany probably as well by JH
The premiums were generally sold with base and in some were a bit taller than 65 mm
Some of this Premiun marks also run several JH figures set such napoleonic ,western figures and others .
Among the premium who sold JH figures with license are NEGRIN and NESQUIK and KORONA.
To differentiate the original JH from premiums they are generally mark bellow or top base with non JH marking or else .While JH original and direct reissues of late production are with out base.

I have some of the MPC Russians in a cream color as well. I always assumed they were made around the time of the Light Blue ones (since I got them together) but I was never really sure. Does anybody know who has the molds to the MPC Japanese and MPC Russians? I always hoped they’d be reissued (particularly the Russians who are not in a great color) in better colors. The Japanese are in pretty decent colors but Russians in blue would not be first color choice.

Molds were in Peru in 90s .and sold all over Peru by BASA.
I import tons bags of then and sold here at show and only till 2005 least .They were reissue in silver and gold stiff plastic along Japanese.
Each bag had 50 figures in all poses perfect detail and no excess plastic residue from mold .the silver -gold color was odd but show a lot of their detail.
The molds and sets disappear no long after from there.
I contact person who worked x BASA who told me all molds were sold off to a liquidator. The problems is x any one spending to just get these molds and start production will need push no less 3000 sets per production that will take a lot time to sale at today hobby interest and sales rate.
