Part Four December 2019 Odds Ends Publius

You should check Mike’s web site as he has more information on Publius and a new sculptor for the company. also, Mike is thinking about doing his own figures. He is talking about doing Saxons. We will try to get more from Mike on this.
Detlef’s Mysteries

I am wondering if it is a display board made for a toy shop. I am remembering years ago when Laurie and I went over for a German Plastic Show Peter Bergner had a Plasty display piece. It was massive and he had it for sale. I had to pass on it as I did not have the room and the cost to ship it. The board reminds me of it. Do you recognize it?
It reminds me of some of the displays I used to see in the toy stores when I was stationed in Germany.
Detlefs finds are very interesting especially the yellow cavalry sergeant.
Is it 60mm?…
Though called seventh cavalry by Crescent I always felt that they, the six figures, were designed to complement the TV series Boots and Saddles, 5th Cavalry. 1958/59.
The sergeant with his Kepi was Sgt.Bullock and the Officer with pistol and knife, the star Captain Adams. The latter animation based on a western TV card.
Both armed with Remington Cavalry pistols.
Bullock even got a mounted version..
Just some childhood trivia…but again that’s what this all about.
Any thoughts Erwin?
Cheers
Alan
Crescent could have used Boots and Saddles as a reference for the figures. It is always interesting to find the bases of figures.
here is a link for information on the show.

Thank you Paul.
Re.Boots and Saddles
Isn’t it nice to relate childhood memories with someone who remembers.
I wonder what other TV shows had similar retail attention not, of course, referring to Marx.
Marvellous personality figures.
Were the crescent spacemen meant to run with Journey into Space? Plenty of others.
As Erwin says..thoughts?
Take care.
Alan
The old tv shows were fun in their own way. I can not think of any other U.S. companies that did any figures that would have to relate tv show. Spain toy companies did some nice figures related to Western television shows. At one spot I had the business I had some of the Bonanza figures on my desk.
Jecsan is the one that cover most western films and tv shows.Comandi first series as well.
Unfortunately none molds brands have ever put to recast even so they are complete in existence and storage.
However they copy well dress clothing and poses .none cover any actor face.
Best
Blue cowboy and green indian are french made.
Cowboy – JEM/ Norev
Indian – probably Bonux, but I not 100% sure
The cowboy pose was already discussed here over 2 years ago.

Best ..
Thanks for reminding me. I have just too many companies to remember these days.
I think Paul is right in asuminge that the diorama was a window-sale shop exhibition set. It is made of different comüponents from different makers:
The Fort Apache has parts from a Fort made by the Italian maker La Capanna, which had more parts when sold un-corverted. The rocky part was made by the German maker Noch. Noch did many hollow cast light diorama parts for toy train resp. play railways. The same piece was often used by shops to display Märklin trains and some of them were show in catalogues together with Timpo Indians. The Tipis obviously are copies and copies of copies from the Herald tipi, while the pot-over-fire piece seems to be an original Dulcop.
Amoong Detlef´s mysteries the red and yellow Indian ius a Polish copy of a Manurba Indian who was set on cowboy legs. The original has a swiffel waist and a detachable spear.
six plastic figures for 90$??
Yes, and 8 for $200
These are collector items rather than toys.
The Publius figures would be great cast in bronze as art objects, they really are not ‘toy soldiers’. Only if they were mass produced in soft plastic and sold by the bag would I look at them as toys at all!
The problem with the Publius figures being so expensive is because they sell just locally. If you live in the US either you have to deal with a middleman who doubles the price or know someone in Russia that can purchase the figures for you. The “Santa” Scandinavian set will cost around $45 if you were able to purchase from Publius themselves. Hopefully one day someone will be a direct re-seller in the US.
I will have some news in a few weeks about my plans with the Saxons. Paul I will send you a message soon about all of this. Stay tuned….
I was.I carry several sets for two years selling off ,then stop.It did not work x me as the margin profit was too short to be any gain. Not worth unless maker give better price or u able sale then off higher.
Besides the amount potential buyers here in states are too few .
EB Are better in price cost to sale profit- margin and gain- loss
My opinion.

I hear you. I think that Publius makes enough sets to sell to there customer base over in Russia and is not interested in expanding at this time. I only get a few sets that I like from all of the Russian companies mainly because of the price.
I agree.
European marked has more collectors x then than here.
I wish I could carry then but doe my family and personal life not time to dedicate fully to it.
I did direct contact w most makers and still have great connections but no time unfortunately.
Even so combined shipping from Russia is still amazing cheap compare to rest Europe.
But hope and wish someone w money be able carry if can afford it so some buyers here can get then.still the price offered by several Russians sellers included shipping would be about same as if offered here by any seller.
My thoughts.
The mystery fort is a complete mix of many as admin though and Dittman mentioned or could be a store/toy fair display promotion .
The Fort was sold under NARDI as well .
Fort is show in one of NARDI catalogs ,of course with Nardi figures .
The forts may be sold/made by LA CAPANNA” in Bollate (Milan) who sold it with NARDI figures as was a craft maker mainly ,not toy plastic figure producer .But it may be also manufactured by
“Neapolitan artisan company” that used NF stand -mean (Neapolitan Fabbrica ) as logo .This was the main producer of most fort made of wood and plastic as well for all italian toy brands from early 50s till 80s and was the main larger plastic accessories supplier of toy makers .
The rock sections are a combination of rock produced as well under MAXI PLASTI line by same NF company from Italy who made a lot terrain for NARDI,ELLEPI-GIOPPI,DULCOP and two Atlantic rare 1/32 forts, they made plenty terrains and NARDI and Atlantic in vacumformat-hollow plastic style first pioneers by Germans toy makers in very early 60s.
Some this data can be found in NARDI book published several years ago as well part in Nardi web site and italian blogs .
best regards
Interesting Publius making set 8 poses,i though generally they do 6.
As usual super well done “collectibles” figurines for very limited part of collectors of course.
PP,PB and few others makers do well so far with these limited done super sculpted figures as far are enough demand .I wish then good luck and go on ..
best
Because it’s not a “set”, but just 8 “singles” sold together.
8 singles =pieces=figures put together for a single sale price is a set or a lot of 8 pieces for one price…..?
Any ways same thing as either 6 or 8 the price per figure does not change much .
