Toy Hunter G.I. Gold

On this episode of Toy hunter, Jordan Hembrough is selling at  the Wondercon in Anaheim California, but before he does the show, Jordan is looking to pick up some G.I. Joe items that he knows he will sell at the show. Jordan’s first stop is Rob, where Jordan finds Big Buzzard one of the Screaming Demons in the box.  Jordan pays $20.00 and he feels he can get $40.00. Checking EBay, I could only loose examples which were selling between $10 to $20.00. Next Jordan buys a Mickey Mouse Medical Kit for $15.00 and plans to sell it for $40.00. A mint version of this item is being offered on EBay for $49.00.  Jordan finds a Micronauts Rocket Tubes for $150.00, which Jordan plans to sell for $250.00. Looking at EBay I found one for sale at $99.00. Jordan finds more Micronauts  a Galactic Warrior, which he plans to sell for $125.00 and Micronauts Lobos which he pays $450.00 and will sell for $800.00. I could not find any examples on EBay.

Disappointed that Rob did not have any G.I. Joe items, Jordan goes to Tim and strikes G.I. Joe gold. The first item that Jordan finds is the G.I. Joe Mobile Command which he pays $250.00 and plans to sell for $500.00. Looking at EBay there is one for $267.00 and another for $3,000.00. Next Jordan finds a mint in the box G.I. Joe Tomahawk Helicopter, which he buys for $425.00 and plans to sell for $1500.00. Checking EBay, I found several people selling the Tomahawk helicopter between $119.99 to $250.00. Jordan next buys the G.I. Joe Space Shuttle for $250.00. I missed the price Jordan was planning on selling it.  On EBay one person was selling the  for $599.00 and another person was selling the shuttle for $4999.00.

Overall Jordan spent over $2445.00 on G.I. Joe so much so he needs to call his friend Mark to get some of the items.  Jordan worries that Mark will not get to the show on time.(Jordan should know by now that Mark is notoriously late unless he is going after some toys.) While Jordan  is waiting for Mark, a man comes up to the booth and tells Jordan that he has a van load of toys for sale. Jordan  tells his helper that he should not allow Mark to put too much of Mark’s stuff in the booth.  Jordan gives himself 20 minutes to look at the man’s items and goes out to the van. At the van, Jordan finds all kinds of toys and buys the contents of the van for $4000.00.

While Jordan is gone Mark arrives with Jordan’s G.I. Joe items. Mark then proceeds to put a bunch of his items in the stand. Jordan arrives back and is annoyed that his helper let Mark put items up. Happy to have his G.I Joe items,  Jordan begins selling items including the Tomahawk helicopter for $1500.00. At the end of the episode Jordan has done $22,000.00

I bet just about every Marx playset collector was screaming for Jordan to look at the various figures and playsets Rob had. Sorry Jordan does not know those items  and he was looking for G.I. Joe.

When doing research on this episode, I found an very interesting piece of information going through the list of exhibitors for Wondercon, I could not find Jordan’s company listed. I did find Mark Huckabone’s company having a booth at Wondercon.  This information puts on a different perspective the second half of the show. Was the stand Jordan’s or Mark’s?  How much of the stand was Jordan’s items and how much was Mark’s. Likewise the sales come into question are we seeing just Jordan’s items being sold or were Marks items included in the mix. Does anyone know Jordan’s helper as Jordan usually has Steve or Julie to help him.

I also have questions on Jordan’s purchases from the person who came into the show. When the van was opened, the boxes that the toys were in were too new. Now it is possible that gentleman got boxes to bring the items to the show. I know of stories of people buying out van loads before they got into a show. It was interesting some of the boxes had items that Jordan normally does not deal in. When you are buying a load you have to figure on what you know can sell. It would be interesting to know how much Jordan kept.

This episode is the reason I blog on the show is I see the show from a different perspective that needs to be exposed. As a dealer, I see things that average person does not see.  First part is the prices of items that Jordan sells his items. Many of the items that he sells are above the going rate. While Jordan can charge what he wants, because it is being shown on television, people get the wrong impression that the item is worth that much. Most items that Jordan has sold when compared to EBay are below his selling price and even what he pays for. I am not the only one who has commented on his prices.  Look at the comments in the link below. You will see people commenting on the prices among other things.

I am also concern that show needs to do things like possible pretend the stand is Jordan’s when it may be someone else’s or pass a dealer off as a collector. I would like to see Jordan set up at regular toy show not a Comic Book Con or Horror show and see how he really does where he has good strong competition.
