November Plastic Figure Potpourri Conte Roman
Figure News Release
People are wondering if the CTS Korean War Marines will be out before Christmas. A collector posted on Facebook that he had contact CTS on this matter. They replied that they will have a limited amount before Christmas. You can go to their site here.
I started my check of the various stores for toy soldiers. Big Lots has a generic army set for $10.00. The figures are 45mm with out of scale tanks. They also have the 54mm wrestlers we showcase from Dollar Tree. Ollie’s also has the wrestler set and is selling various model kits. Target had nothing for us.
Paul just a clarification, Maggotus was a joke Conte was saying because he has the face of maggot from the dirty dozen, because he is creating a sort of dirty dozen of Roman soldiers. That axe is called a Dolabra
You are right I missed the joke.
Nice Roman sculpt! In plastic I hope? The Britains 1970’s Army figures are really well done. What happened to the molds? Including the 4 common poses, they seem to be never recasted.
Some of the Deetail figure molds ended up in Argentina which DSG has reissued. On the paratrooper molds, I don’t know. with the various change in ownership, it is hard to say.
I have several of DSD figures sets and after compare notice they recast or redo using another new mold ,they are thicker and taller with minor variation in case of AK and 8th army, arabs and FFL and other considerable different .Most rest DSD are new molds with new figures base in the tradition of deetail with Rectangular bases cloned from britain deetail but in plastic.
The plastic base been light plastic made figures a bit less strong to stand and in some cases fell easy .
Other issue is plastic always have a lot bending and the hot cold water take several times to correct it .
Painting is nice and new set such knights, viking and romans are awesome well done .
I guess they did(no use Britain molds) to avoid direct legal issues .Some how they have less market here than in Europe as painted figures sale better of US .Their price seems high too but compare to today new rise per figure price not that high i guess.
my thoughts
These molds used the overlay method of adding the plastic in different colors (also used by Timpo for some figures like the Vikings) and it may be you needed special techniques and instruction whose information has been lost. On a side note I picked one of the paratrooper figures up years ago at an antique mall here in Florida and have wondered if the Epcot England/UK store may have sold the figures way back when they were made.
conte actually in business again?
Yes, he is back in business.
