Mars Next Figure Offering, thanks to Rahway and Brian McIver they have alerted me to Mars new offering. The future set is Don Cossacks. Hope to be out by the end of 2019.
Mars Next Figure Offering Details
Don Cossacks have a rich military history. They are credit with helping defeat Napoleon invasion of Russia. Disbanded after the Russian Revolution they were reinstated in 1936 and fought in World War II.
Mars has decided to do the Don Cossacks as infantry instead of cavalry for now. This is understandable due to the cost of making a horse pose.
As always Mars sets are 15 figures in 8 poses. The poses are as follow:
- Running with an automatic weapon
- Advancing with a heavy machine gun
- Standing with a rifle at waist ready
- Running with the rifle at the side
- kneeling loading the rifle
- Leaning forward with a knife in left-hand right-hand is on a weapon
- Walking with a pistol in his left-hand His right hand is back overhead with a knife
- Leaning forward firing a submachine gun.
The figures are very nicely sculpted. I like the faces on these figures. The detail and the poses are nicely done. Another thing I like the sculptor did is given the figures different styles of hats. These figures should go well with other Russian figures done by Airx, Marx, and others.
Final Thoughts
The Mars Don Cossacks are welcome additions to the World War II plastic military figures. Mars as one person pointed out has been doing lots of overlooked groups such as the German Naval Infantry and Japanese paratroopers. The level of sculpting on these figures is much higher than some of their other figures.
One thing I would like to respond to one party complaining that I am copying stuff from Facebook. I place items here for those people who do not belong to Facebook or sources. They have depended on me for years to make them aware of new items. Also, I get a chance to expand out on the information.
These look absolutely amazing. Mars continues to improve. Now to wait for Scott’s Model Shop to get them in. Other retailers tend to overcharge for them (not really worth 25-27 dollars a set). I was really hoping Mars would start making WWII Russian forces. I think most World War II collectors would agree that having a lot of Russian troops is critical to recreating the Eastern Front. I’m still trying to fill out my Soviet Army.
Toy Soldier HQ sells the Mars sets for $21.50
I’m not on Facebook so you can tell that guy to go climb a pole!!What the Toy Soldier world really needs is for a company like Mars is to do 54MM 1939 Polish Army but that might be a little sensitive for a Russian company,LOL eh.
Agreed Brian.
Paul, keep doing what you’re doing.
I’m impressed with this Mars company, They are bringing out lots of exciting and varied figures from History in good poses, And they are one of the few companys making figures in the classic 54mm scale, (Hurrah). Although this is not my era of history i collect i cant wait to see what they come out with next as there are many figures from different parts of history to choose from in there 1/72 which they are now producing in 1/32 scale. Hope they think about bringing out Aztec, Medieval and Ancient figures soon.
I’d like to see these in metallic blue to match the MPC Cossacks. I know they’re on different sides, but I think they would match well with the MPC set.
Paul—keep up the good works! I’ve always found you to be a great source for information. Thanks!
I will, the other person is just the long history of naysayers. I just have a laugh when I see his comments.
I like this set much better than other I will/won’t buy.I also could- can give then use as German allied Cossack units that were many and even larger than in the red army .
The may blen well with MPC and maybe charbens too.some crescent can be used along .
I had convert Timpo cossacks solid copies of Lafredo to WW2 and early period cossacks.

I still looking to see the cavalry being done ,but as admin says cavalry set are very costly and always few poses for top money .
this set is a buy x me so far .
best
They are not just Don Cossacks, but Don Cossacks on german service. Look at Erwin’s link above.
Would like Mars to do a Bosnian SS set that would good and maybe Yugoslavians and Chetniks like in the film Force 10 from Navarone.
Would also like to see made by Mars ww2 Finland troops and resistance fighters also Tito Partisans, Dutch soldiers, Belgian soldiers and Hungarian also Romanian figures people don’t make.
MARS is a cheap maker. So I bet they can do all that.
Only CTS did a Italian set used as Romanian.
So we need them ..
Engineer Basevich did Tito’s partisans and Chetniks.

Hey guys, I know for a fact, MARS has a lot of super cool figure kits in the pipeline!!!
MARS is the new AIRFIX, so hang tight! It only can get better from here!!!
I have got two sets of Engineer Basevich Partisans and Chetniks but would like more from other companies. Would love to see ww2 Phillipine guerrillas and Burmese fighters.
Philippine guerrillas would be nice. No one has done decent 1940 French. More Korean War figures and even Cold War era Soviets, Brits, and French I would like to see.
