The next set in the production queue is 60 RMN 04 Auxiliary Infantry (in chain-mail). Absolutely amazing! I love the Roman Scorpions! Great sculpts, accurate, well chosen poses, facets that have not been covered before or at least this well. Wonderful!

  4. james nixon says:

The Roman scorpion artillery look great also the command looks good to would liked to have seen some drummers and maybe some standard riders. The Persian cavalry looks great especially the mounted archers will be getting all of these when they come out

  5. ERWIN F SELL says:

Well done and very generic use too .The persians can be use for several; centuries period wars and even as other cultures too if like .
The style used by EXF in my personal like is a bit stiff non very motion human anatomically correct ,yet are quite well done .Deep detail is great .The artillery set is great and unique with scorpion so mass used by Romans .The standard carrier with shield in hand is not correct but can be pass i guess.Shield was not carry in same hand with standart ,it was hang and use only when standr was grounded standing to defend it in extreme case .
The persian can be used as trasian /dacians too or as late Macedonian /greeks armies against Roman republic too .Will be great if they do horses in more fast trote /running position .
I bet they will blend match perfect TSSD,NON NAME(russian made ),REAMSA/JECSAN ,MARX/CANE , CONTE,SUPREME and others same scale range sets .
Once again EXF is the top faster maker ever in toy soldiers figures plastic per year since Marx i guess ,It had pass amount sets per year that AIP made and at much better historical detail accuracy ,just in the new scale tall range 60 mm or more .
    my thoughts

  6. Greg Liska says:

I don’t think AIP lost any points on the accuracy front. I don’t have everything they did, but what I have I can find no fault in that area. The sculpting with X Force is quite superior, but you pay for that, too. AIP did sort of ‘ask’ a customer to stretch the use of their figures. My one remembered example was with the mounted Cossacks. They are obviously carrying Moisin-Nagant carbines on their backs, but they were suggested to be used for Napoleonic era Cossacks when cast in a certain color. I can live with that. A bit of imagination is fine by me.

    • ERWIN F SELL says:

Yes,.AIP no quite lost accuracy overall. But they did very simple mass produces figures to cover in generic (in Anachronic way sometimes x other periods)
Examples. WW1 1914 Germans as to be use x 1870/71 Franco Prussian war when uniform was different and of course weapons. Plus, gear and backpack differ a lot from 1870s to 1914.
Japanese of Boxer war did not have same hat as those in WW1.
Most AIP figures lack backpack and weapons/ammo/ supply gears in figures making then very simple and they did a standard set poses in almost same poses for all armies that is liked by many while for others is boring with one pose (the one with front leg rise) been mock by some collectors as too repeated
Another sample of wrong use -depiction is the generic American war independence sets to be use as early 7 years and Indian wars where uniforms were longer in coat and different from much later 1770s.
Barzso resin figures did the first correct 7 years war ;onger coat uniforms of the at period with HAT as well making in plastic
Of course, for those using imagination can pass as those or else or any …
I see many using ACW as French for the Franco Prussian wars and Mexico intervention just because the French kepi was alike the one use by US armies during ACW.But the US uniforms of ACW are far cry from French uniforms of 1860-1880
There many using Napoleonic French, British, Russian else as Mexican for Alamo when uniforms were far different as had pass over 20 years. That they use coats and shakos does not mean is same uniform Amy, era else. Same way tricorns where used for over century and half.
There also a difference in sculpture in very few minor sets poses by AIP.The simples sets and the more accurate base in Jerking!? design I think it was I forgot name now. Sample the north east Indian and Canadian sets much better than other in detail.
And yes, the lack all that is accomplished with less cost and that is reason we get much low-cost figures as AIP give us for years with their great prices.
      All has a price.
EXF has the way more accurate and historical correct possible with the possibility variation poses w extra arms, heads else per set but at high mark price but also in a non-quite match scale with tradition 54 mm as those if AIP.
I find a similitude in choice poses per set tradition used by EXF in most sets and AIP versus variation of poses per set in other makers.
Both makers had their best and bad and all in general give us much choices in the so limited hobby.
EXF had produce since its start in 2013 more sets per year than AIP that was the previous more proliferative maker in last decades.
To both I appreciate/thanks their effort and accomplishment to hobby.
To any using imagination I bet any could work to advantage.
To be honest with the accuracy figure/brand maker versus history only few of those today making can get close enough.
Either seen as toy soldiers to have fun among “adult collectors” or to be collectors representing historical event with plastic toy figures their makers and “makers”.
Even PP super accurate figures have errors too. Last 7 cavalry set future release show it.
      My thought

  7. ed borris says:

If you draw your sword you have to do something with the standard. I would assume you’d stick it in the ground. Unless of course you can grow an extra arm. However, that would be a difficult figure to produce, so I can understad why they did it the way they did.

  8. Alan James Black says:

Erwin I’m puzzled regarding your statement about the standard bearers shields.
Doesn’t Trajans column show shields attached to the left arms of the signifiers.
    Fantastic set of figures though.
Agree with you about sculpting style.
Love the command set with the different centurions and that artillery set..wow.
    Two bolt throwers.
    Happy times.

    • ERWIN F SELL says:

      No so puzzle.
The soldiers at Trajan colum and Constantine arch of triumph depicted Do not shown fighting w swords while carry the standard w shield at same time in other hand as far I know .
The Parma small shield was actually more decorative than protective and according to few literature and manuals it indicate was hang in his back during march or advance if soldier has the standard in his right hand it dictated he will carry shield strapped in forearm and shoulder so he could carry if need standard with both hands same time protecting his chest. Then if in last desperate situation he will drown is sword while dropping shield and passing standart to his left to drow sword hang in his left side.
He often carry a short dage in his right side too.No depicted in figure.
The standard of all Roman types were made of wood and bronze very heavy to be handle along easy in one hand together w small bronze/or steel wood shield unless person has a robotic steel arm.
Also if notice well the EXF has another very wrong mistake.
      It has two same swords.
One shielded full still in on his right side belt and the one he has in his right hand.
Since when signifier or else carry two long same swords?
The figure was made as that to create extra fun action or for ignorance but is unrealistic, non logical and x that not accurate made.
      Still can be pass .
The horses of most EXF sets are also in too passive action poses.
Generally I accept EXF in oversl as great figures.
But when figures are made costly they should look better as their claim accuracy.
EXF lack motion in anatomical way as if too robotic rigid in poses int viewing.
CONTE surpass then in anatomical and historical correct much more.
Publius and PP in general too.Even Suprem made in China Roman’s that are mix hybrid copies or King &Country and Thomas metal figures.
Last but not least in many sculptures and engraved even from era let’s not forget they depict things wrong in purpose by petition of those commsion it or else.
Both are triumphal depiction of wars and in many cases figures are represented in not quite action.
If notice well most Roman triumph arts will show most barbarian represented in plain clothing and not shields ,armors or else that according to arquelogy discoveries is prooved wrong.
Trasian, Dacians,Persian, Germans and gauls often arm themselves self very well.
The depiction of then in many Roman arts is intentionally made wrong or out ignorance as most artirst never were present in those wars.
It was done also to give idea only romans armies were more perfect armed and suited as a show of superiority.
Accuracy should be taken more base in arquelogy and description than painting and sculptures.

      my thought.
      best

  9. Alan James Black says:

    Thank you Erwin.
I enjoyed reading your response and happily stand corrected.
    Still great figures.
    Cheers
    Alan

  10. ed borris says:

I think we’ll have to give them a pass, probably not lot of photo’s from the Roman times around. Perhaps Erwin can share his time machine with us and we can all be young again.

  11. TD Barnecut says:

All nit-picking aside, they are great figures and are like modern day Swoppets. Will EXF swop plastic for your pension?
