May Plastic Figure Roundup Ed Borris New Figure

May Plastic Figure Roundup

Last year Ed Borris did a special figure of Ron Barzso. This year Ed is doing of a figure of John Stengel Sr. John was active at shows on the East Coast and Chicago. He would have a great set up at the shows. Sadly we lost him in 2016. this is a nice figure to remember him.

Plastic Platoon Cavalry Preview

Plastic Platoon cavalry
Erwin got a preview of Plastic Platoon’s next offering American cavalry. The set will have six different poses.
Plastic Platoon Cavalry
As before the figures are well detailed. My only complaint is the soldier with the arrow. The pose limits the use of this figure. It is a minor pet peeve of mine. I like the Atlantic Custer set but the arrows ruined me from using them elsewhere. We have no date of when they will be released. We will keep you posted.

Funk Figure Finds

Panzer tank
As I said Markus like to call some his finds funny. The first one is set that say Tiger Tank.
Tank box
When you open up the box you find it is not a Tiger tank but a Panzer IV
PanzerIV
The tank works well with 54m and 60mm figures. Markus put a sample of different figures to show a comparison. The end figure on the right is an Elastolin 70mm figure. do you think it would work as well?
train set
Markus found another train set and could not resist buying it. He feels it will go well with 54mm and 60mm figures. (He put a smattering of 60mm figures to show how they will work with the train) The train cost him 30 Euros ($33.60)
figure group
The last funny find was this group of figures he found for a Euro ($1.12). the bag had a copy of the Airfix cowboy stand and a German Afrika Corp change to have a steel helmet, the main find was the eight different French soldiers. These are copies of the Airfix HO WWI French upside to 48/50mm. Once again many different and interesting items.

  1. The Plastic Platoon Master sculpts were leaked from the manufacturer to the internet. PP wasn’t ready to announce this set yet. I had these pictures a few days ago. I can’t wait to we see some Indians.

  2. ERWIN F SELL says:

The French WW2 poses base in Airfix HO were made in 80S by RY TOYS or Rado in HK.
    They were post here before….

  3. ERWIN F SELL says:

The tanks were made Ecstasy company x Galoob and are 1/24-26 scale(70-80mm scale) In my opinion or preference They match with Elastolin plastic ,Aurburn,IDEAL,CANE 70/75 mm scale and possible close with large EXF new germans but not with 60/65 mm scale .
They did a nice realist HUMMEL WW2 german SPG I post here years ago .
    https://www.stadsstuff.com/?p=3147.
The name outside and letters given are probably to avoid and copyright or confusing as not replicas or kits .
Interesting part too is the Panzer IV come with front driver crew as american while other is german .The Hummel come with all germans crew but made in very small under sale 54 mm vs vehicle .Decals often were stars .
I find out much later they did a Panther (PANZER V) and a US M26-Pershing tank .
I had seen then few times but not able to get then as bid too high and some damage .
I like the scale as match with above soldiers i have in my collection as well. Also the Bandai nice easy build alike scale armor line can blend with then good too and i do it with mine
The BOX set found by Markus is indeed in awesome condition
    Awesome finds Matkus!!!
    Best
    .

  4. Tom Black says:

Awesome job by PP again. No Custer though!

  5. Alan James Black says:

Whilst I applaud Plastic Platoons attempt at US Cavalry I am very disappointed at the variety of errors in animation and dress.
Like Erwin I dislike arrows but it is items such as boots ankle, two thin, lack of Spurs ??, Mexican hat, bayonet etc. that are particularly disappointing from such a manufacturer.
Reference to The Horse Soldier Vol2 The frontier etc. would, as an example, have helped the sculptor.
Any way I look forward to further comments.

  6. ERWIN F SELL says:

Arrows had been always a nice realistic depiction.Yet they reduce possibilities x figures been use in other scenes.
Atlantic poses after I got hand in others extras I just cut neat all and simple resolved.
I think I we can do same with these .
But after u spend so much x 6 figures is hard to do it.
The uniforms issues could be a problem as this maker blow their accuracy w big horns.
I will think if they do foot cavalry ,they will do mounted Indians as well .But if done I can imagine the price then..

  7. Alan James Black says:

Thank you Erwin. I value your comments and agree regarding their problems regarding uniforms around the period of the Little Big Horn.
To be honest I was hoping Plastic Platoon, though they cost my pension, would have provided a set of figures for us in varying positions similar to their brilliant Vietnam Marines range.
    Standing, kneeling, lying etc.
    Dynamic action but interlocking.
I do know the period and, as you, what customers want very well.
I retired my own business sculpting US Cavalry twenty years ago, Artefacts, but still do the occasional figure.
There is plenty of reference material easily available now on the Internet.
More than I ever had which makes this new series so disappointing.
    Thanks for listening.
    Kind regards to all.

    • TD Barnecut says:

One problem with figure designs which often pops up is that the figures are modeled after film or TV images, rather than original historical research. So various errors by Hollywood costume designers or property departments are carried over to the figure designs.

    • Shane Robert Davis says:

Not that I am an expert ā€¦ but I know enough about this period. Have been interested in the LBH for 40 years. It always disappoints me with the historical background that some of the company’s must not look in to. Artefacts were and still are the BEST LBH figures ever made. I have Resin, Plastic, Metal figures from everywhere and am Always still looking. I will be interested to see what these P P figures look like in the flesh.
Lost your contact details long ago Alan. Asked around for years. Great to see you still about.

    • Carl Castoro says:

Hello Mr Black. I have been lucky enough to acquire a few of Your brilliantly detailed Artefacts 7th Cavalry metal figures. Iā€™m surprised to find they were made 20 years ago. I search eBay for more of them, as well as Bugle&Guidon and Fleurbaiux (Rosewood) Figures. Do you know of a seller, or site where they might be available? Did you have mounted poses with horses as well? Regarding PP US Cavalry, a bit disappointing. The Sioux Indians are MUCH better, but I collect only the Apache figures. Hoping more companies release more of them. There are Paragon, Atlantic, Replicants, Gung-Ho, and Art-ofWar Apache sets, most out of business. Thanks for your time, and I appreciate your products, which I believe are a legacy in the soldier kit inventory. Carl Castoro

  8. james nixon says:

The us cavalry look great cant wait for them to come out. The panzer IV looks like it was made the same as the Durham German personnel carrier.

  9. Markus says:

Big thank you to Erwin for the update on Pz IV. A true expert and enthusiast. Kind of weird that the box has no hint on maker or country of origin. Looks like ex shop stock with only price tag removed. Which is a shame as it would have been only chance to trace down more on its origin. Beginning to drift up into CIS…
Also thanks for link on Hummel. Was almost sure having seen it before but looks like my short time memory has some kind of information overload when it comes to plastic figure related items. To much but big fun… Otherwise no fun to know that there is not only Hummel but also Panther and Pershing to be chased down.
At least I’m lucky that shows are still alive and items on and under the tables making it worth to give shows a chance.

  10. Alan James Black says:

Thank you TD. I guess you are correct. Hollywood has influenced the costume design of the cavalry. I’m guilty loving the John Ford trilogy.
I should just be glad that PP have undertaken this series.
Just a small point though does anyone else think there may be another/different sculptor for PP.
Face animation is great but fabric is poor.
    Just my thoughts.

Erwin, sorry but could you please settle an argument, who do you think is best US sculptor/manufacturer. Doesn’t have to be one.
    Apreciated
    Thanks again.

  11. Brian Johnson says:

RE:Cavalry figures I like them but I don’t like them if you know what I mean, great figures but I guess I’m old fashioned in just give me the standard standing shooter(Rifle-pistol)kneeling shooter, prone shooter, advancing weapon at waist/high port,Officer pointing/sword/pistol.I do like the Crow Scout figure, wouldn’t mind being able to just purchase him.

  12. Alan James Black says:

Brian I agree with you. After their magnificent start I personally feel disappointed that PP didn’t give us the definitive last stand figures.
But we do have TSSD and Paragon.
    Cheers.

  13. Shane Davis says:

I am not an expert , but I have been interested in this era for 40 years. I am always disappointed with the lack of background historical input into Little Bighorn Figures. Or companies saying 54mm and they end up closer to 60mm. Or they are chunky. I have Plastic/Resin/Metal figures, with Artefacts being the BEST ever made in my opinion. I look forward to seeing these PP figures in the flesh. I hope they do more than just these, with command and Indians included. No one does any great looking Indians and I have searched all over the world.
Alan, great to see you on here, I lost your contact details years ago and searched for you for a long time. I am not a big fan of Paragon or Tssd, way too chunky.
Great to see you are still about mate.

  14. Alan James Black says:

    Hi Shane.
Now out in chilly Ballarat. Just greyer, older but no wiser.

Well Paragon gave me, finally if you must do Hollywood, Fort Apache figures.
I may be old fashioned but they have a charm.
How I wished for an Owen Thursday with the French style kepi.
    But I love them.

TSSD gave Custer and a very good Crazy Horse.
Their Sioux and Cheyenne are particularly good.
Not to impressed with the foot or mounted men.

Marx cavalry, apart from the strange weapons, are quite good.
    Still have my fort.

Chunky, mebbe, but my own favourite US Cavalry remain the old crescent even if they are based on the Boots and Saddles TV series from 57.

Not much into any of the other manufactures though.
Sorry if I monopolised this thread.
But I’m finding the colums reviews/comments the highlights of my weeks.
    Thank you.
    Cheers
    Alan

    • Shane Davis says:

      Hi Alan,
Still in Adelaide here, older too, like to think a little wiser šŸ˜‰
I just keep my eye out for anything Little Bighorn related. Hard to find great poses or action poses that are a clear 54mm. Been coming on here but never posted. Great site. Not too many company’s do Indians that I have not already got or converted. Have some great figures in my huge collection these days. But always on the look out. Hope these PP figures fit in well with mine.
Great seeing you after all these years. Hope all is well. Would love to contact you, sent my details through to Paul. Your call.

      Regards,
      Shane

Plastic Platoon has posted eight photos of their upcoming set, 7th Cavalry Regiment, Battle of the Little Bighorn, on the PP FB page.

  16. Shane Davis says:

Can anyone let me know if these are definitely 54mm or closer to 60mm? Though I am familiar with the brand, I have never owned anything from PP. I just hope they are 54mm and they do more than just this set, from Little Bighorn.

    • ERWIN F SELL says:

PP run in the more modern consider 60 mm line or 1/30 and not in old traditional 54 mm.
The elevated bases terrain made then looks taller than 60 mm too.
      best

  17. Shane Davis says:

    Thanks Erwin, appreciate it.

  18. H. Paas says:

too expensive will not buy plastic platoon figures

  19. Alan James Black says:

Hi Paul, I’m not sure of your rules on your forum regarding giving out contact details to other members.
However if it doesn’t inconvenience you would it be possible for you to give out my email contact details to Shane Davis and Carlo.
Your forum is a joy for me and I would never wish to disrespect your rules.
    With thanks.
