Never heard of original grey long coats ! But would not surprise me ?Original ?
Nor have I; I think the guy is either mistaken or trying to pull a fast one. I could be wrong though.
I saw that as well. I have never seen an original flat-grey Longcoat, and I believe these have enough shine to them to keep that idea alive. Of course the TRUE test is in the “feel”. But they look like the recast grey that I own.
They do look like recast, however the mold for the riders with arm at their side (for sword accessory?), along with the bugler, have never been recast. So this is a mystery. They look too pristine for a dump find.
Gray long coat cavalry made it into some Fort Apache play sets in the 1960s. I remember Rick Eber having a few at an OTSN years ago
$256.00 with 2 days to go!! Looks like a couple of buyers are fighting over them!!
The “big hitters” don’t even come out until the final 10 seconds. Will they hit $500??
$600??? AND these could be Mexican re-casts!!
It seems to be a risk without proper provenance.
The mold no longer exists. Three cavities; with sword, with pistol & with flag were all that could be found and reissues of these three poses were made in the 1990s in gray, light blue, royal blue, midnight blue and metallic blue. The poses in the auction are from the lost cavities. They are at $256 and the top bidder is the Michigan collector who goes all in on anything he wants. So expect a big ending price if he gets a serious competitor. I emailed Rick Eber and he agrees with me that they are authentic. According to Rick “I’ve seen them only a couple times in the smaller Allstate Fort Apache from 1964 and 65. Not a full set of 9 but 3 or 4 poses”
Thanks for your input guys, I found out about these from a collector in Hillsborough, NC. He states he received a standard 9 figure set X 2 in a 1964 Ft. Apache set for Christmas.
Mr. Berke or Mr. Handly do you have or have you seen any of the “arms by the side” or bugler in grey? Kent, was the color bearer mold lost too? One more figure, the sword raised one, and I will have what appears to be a 9 figure set, vintage I hope! Thanks guys!
