Conte Collectibles Plastic Romans The News

Conte Collectibles Plastic Romans

At long last, some plastic news.  Plastic Romans are becoming a reality.  These are photos (received today) of the first Roman figure prototype rendered at the factory.
We are very pleased that minimal changes in our original sculpt have been made—meaning that our vision of how we want our Romans to look can be realized in plastic.
We had worried that the ‘cheek guards’ on the helmet might have been compromised/changed due to molding issues or that the weight of the shield might be a problem but things are looking good.

Work at the factory is proceeding on a marching figure, an archer, a massed formation figure and 8 attacking poses. (that’s 12 if you are counting ).
The factory has in their hands an additional 4 poses which have not entered the mold making process yet.
4 Casualty poses & 4 additional fighting sculpts are being finalized here in the USA.  We plan to send these to the factory as soon as they are finished.
The Barbarian Horde is also being readied; as soon as we know ‘things are good’ with the first 8 or so Romans, we will be sending Barbarians….

If you guys support the range, we also have catapults, ballista, siege tower and battering ram sculpted and ready ….Thanks as always for your patience and support for our Labor of Love.
Hail Einar Maximus

Final Thoughts

When these new Conte Collectibles Roman figures come out, they will set a new standard for plastic Roman figures. Prior to this, the standard was Expeditionary Force and TSSD Romans. We will sit back now wait for these figures. As we get the information we will post it. You can also go to Conte Collectibles to register for their email.

These are great and I told Richard as much. I fully support any plastic they produce and hope they can string together multiple releases. He supposedly has an unreleased World War II building and I’d love if it sees the light of day. Conte production is obviously spectacular.

  2. John Wallace says:

These new forthcoming plastics from Conte look superb : will support anything he brings out in plastic ! Hail Ragnar (Magnus)

  3. Wayne W says:

Great news! I got the e-mail earlier and am hoping he can pull it off at long last. These look as though they will go beautifully with TSSD – in my imaginary wars I’ll even put them up against LOD! Best wishes to him.

  4. Bobby Moore says:

While not my area of collecting, I hope these do well. Hopefully in the future we will see some new WW2 figures from him.

I urge you all to read and comment on this old thread from last year:

At the time of that posting, Richard was not interested in plastic. Over the last year, he started to get the itch for plastic again. Seeing all of the new items from Russia got him thinking again on plastic. So now Richard have these Romans at the factory. He is also doing metal figures(different subjects). I am taking the following view just sit back and see.

Any ideas on scale or price? If the scale is 54mm like the Normans and Vikings they did quite a few years ago i will be very interested in them and will probably buy some. However if they are a similar scale to the Spartans they did a few years ago which were nearer to 65mm i wont be getting any as i wont buy large scale figures anymore, But whatever they are i wish them luck and hope they do well.

    Great welcome news!!!
I agree that figures are a great add to hobby and hope come soon and handy. Also glad another US main maker and one of the first to massive introduce figures to the hobby been back with plastic as he mentions will before against some speculation and skeptical.
The figures will feel the ranks of Imperial roman a late republic I bet. The siege war machines mentioned are also good news.
Regarding accuracy and historical view of figures in my personal view.
I had. Using only photo of prototype from email so far compared poses versus TSSD and other roman recently done poses by Russian makers in these poses or alike close that had been done in other brands and this prototype is much careful made as a real authentic human anatomical correct depiction in such action, specifically the pose in photos so far.
If look well the position of pose is well done looking in consideration it depicts what a real roman soldier with full real armor and weight will need to do to balance and countermeasure his body to adjusted versus technique used of typical close roman shield formation.
It was not quite well observed in TSSD way more rigid stiff poses and others such (Non name) brand from Russia soldier.
Even King and Country and Thomas metal figures (Where Supreme Chinese brand made figures were copied from) fail to depict it too as accurate as this figure is made
The figures are if extracted from a painting of a true military researcher combat roman technique book or if using a real reenactment.
Last but no least I like add that pose remain me a lot of Stadsreplicant roman pose that was well done in the anatomical way just with a view close to 2D probably because complexity with mold in regard to shield position .I manage get bunch then and easy fix it with hot water treatment and even made two poses with just added a spear-pilum from Timpo to then
    My thoughts.
    Best

  9. Tom Black says:

Exciting news! Having TSSD, ExForce, No Name and these you can really build an army of Romans that I used to dream about from the ads in the backpage of the comic books (Helen of Toy?). Conte wants to follow up with Germanic Barbarians. Hopefully the Barbarians blend with TSSD.

  10. Jack Gibbons says:

More troops for the Legions! Let’s hope Conte can come through this time. I bought most of his plastic when it was issued, and plan to add this line to the collection.

  11. ed borris says:

For giggles I pulled out one of my Conte Spartans, on the bottom of the base it has 2007 listed. That’s 12 years between the production of plastic sets. That is quite a hiatus.Well, welcome back to the living.
