Stad’s Odds Ends Figures, this time we will look at some miscellaneous figures. They are from various era and various companies.
Stad’s Odds Ends Figures Figures
Our first figure is from Xiloplasto of Italy. The figure is 70mm and is missing its base. The figure is of Arab soldier with rifle at waist. I wonder why they did him?
I wish someone with the will and wherewithal would copy the Timmee Russians in a smaller scale like 54-58mm.
I always loved the Andygard figures. Their cowboys and Indians were some of the finest figure in the era IMHO; I just wished (and still do) they had done more poses. At the same time, I didn’t care (one of the few times) their ACW were more than a head taller than my Marx Blue and Gray guys, they were just so good. I always thought CTS did the hobby a great figure when they reproduced them in a scale more matching 54mm; particularly if the original molds are gone. No harm, no foul, I think.
Agreed ,if the mold is missing why not. Lots of classics should be redone like the Marx 2nd series GI’s (Medical) Airfix Italians, Britain’s full 8 poses of Cold War era British Commandos/SAS/ Marines and many more. Also Marx Man From Uncle and other 6 inch figures downsized to 54mm-60mm.
Tom, there is a product on the market which is a type of casting resin which intentionally shrinks as it cures. This could be used to make smaller scaled versions of the larger figures you mention. I think the website where this item is available is called ‘The Engineer guy”, check it out!
Thanks TD!
Thanks TD!
Thanks From ME too, been interested in finding products like these, looks interesting !!!!!!!!!!!!! Mark
TD, THAT piques my interest.
To make 54mm figures from say, 70mm originals you would first make a rubber mold of the 70mm figure. You cast the shrinking resin into that mold and when that casting has shrunk down to 54mm, you make a rubber mold of that figure. Then you can use regular polyurethane resin to produce the figures in 54mm. I have not seen anyone using this process yet. Lots of work to make that many molds!
Yes mexicans use that to do the arabs and FFL they did base in Marx poses but just with minor variation and not first time AMEX figure maker did same in 80s and he copied many marx almost identical is 5 mmm or less scale down .
Marx Space 70 mm were made in to 60 mm and several others as well .
He may had use different material during casting ,is a very slow process but with good end result if well done .
I’m retired – what else am I going to do with my time (besides wife, kids, grandkids, writing, backyard chickens, cattle, catching up on my painting backlog…)?
I think I could possible squeeze it in…
Nice Figures Paul !
