Marx Toys Character Figures first we will take a look at one of the character figures from Gunsmoke. Next we will look at the Marx Disney Zorro character figures.
Marx Toys Character Figures Gunsmoke
As a collector, I have had many legendary finds. One of those finds was two sets of Marx Gunsmoke figures at the Marx legendary auction. The auction was the breakup of the partnership of Gene Scale and John Bowers. At the auction I bought four boxes of figure bags. In one box was two bags of Marx Gunsmoke characters. One bag had the complete set of figures. The other set had two Chester Goode. I traded with Art Rostel the partial set, who was also at the auction.
The Gunsmoke character set contain four character figures: Marshall Matt Dillon, Chester, Doc Adam and Miss Kitty. The show lasted from 1955 to 1975. There were rumors that Marx was going to do a Festus which is false. The playset was only out one year.
I sold my set of four years ago, but I kept the Chester. Having not looked at the figure in a long time. I see I will have to do a cleaning.
Marx Toys Character Figures Zorro
Marx did a playset of the Disney Zorro television series. The show was only on two years, but it release a mass of merchandise items for the short time it was on. The Marx playset had a large set of character figures.
Because of the large character figure group Marx only did a mounted Zorro. It annoyed me that they did not do a foot Zorro to combat Commandante. Years later in my collecting in Europe I discover the Dulcop foot Zorro. France also had some unauthorized Zorro figures from Cofalu. Jim of France did authorized figure with Zorro with sword out in right hand and pistol in the other. Jim also did a Zorro holding sword. Both figures are without cape.
I have a mint in the box zorro set. Some years ago I got a set of the figures in a white soft plastic. I belive they maybe from the display boards.
