It seems old TV reality shows don’t die. They end up on a channel of lesser quality. Case in point Toy Hunters. Over the holidays I found they were running the show on one of the back channels of my cable system. The show ran three seasons, sadly it was a disappointment. The first season they tried to emulate American Pickers. One episode they tried to pass a major dealer off as a collector. I told Jordan Hembrough to his face that was wrong. There were so many things wrong with this show. Here is an example one of my pieces I blog on the show .
If you have not seen take a look prices are very likely out of date. Then compare my posts on the shows.

Today I went to my first flea market of the year. I actually went to get some cider for Laurie. Sadly the dealer in the cider she likes closed for the season. Still there were a few dealers in the flea market area. I figured I would not find anything and I found two items the first was the above 60mm Marx Lone Ranger figure. A sealer had a bunch of flats in various display cases when I spotted the Lone Ranger. The dealer has a bunch of Marx axes in the stump, but he wanted a dollar each.

The other item I found was a dealer had a Johillco Roman lead Chariot. I usually find a lead item this time of the year. It is only missing some paint. So if this is an indication of the coming year, it should be good.

Yes, “Toy Hunters” seemed modeled on the success of “American Pickers”, but tended to become a weak imitation. I found it entertaining for a few episodes, but not enough to keep me coming back.

Finding that Johilco chariot at a flea market was really something, just like finding the Marx Lone Ranger character figure. Finding stuff like that teaches you not to give up the hunt — you never know what you’re going to run in to.

Finally, I liked Detlef’s painted Airfix and Atlantic WWII Germans. It’s amazing how painting figures from two different manufacturers in the same colors and styles tends to obscure the differnces, and makes them look completely compatible with each other.

      Detlef is a great painter.
Toy Hunter had many problems. The biggest was the people behind it did not know about toys.
