Plastic Figure Showcase Part One I did not realize that I had not fone one yet for the month. That is because of the great reports from the German Plastic Show. also information of new plastic figures coming out. so lets look at some old figures.
Plastic Figure Showcase Part One Photos
Here is an Indian in the style of Beton but much cruder. I have no idea who made him.
This isĀ one of two Mattel mounted cowboys. It was part of Power Shop set. Kent SprecherĀ on his site Toy Soldier Headquarters that set was made to makewestern buildings. Kent has never seen the set have you?
I had a Mattel Power Shop and made a lot of fun projects of balsa wood & pine. I don’t remember any figures coming with it. Although it was only a toy power tool, the disc sander worked well and I still use that part of it on small projects.
Googled it and looks like there were two different Mattel Power Shops, one sold in 1964 and a completely different one sold in 1978. The Cowboy figure came in the 1978 version. Also included were a plastic buckboard, driver figure & two horses. The set came with the plans to build 4 different western town buildings, Jail, Hotel, Livery and General store. The buildings pictured on the box look really nice!
Here is a picture of the western power shop. https://savacoolandsons.blob.core.windows.net/photos/13038/13038-6t63.jpg
Looks like maybe the buckboard was wooden as well? Hard to tell from the photo…..
From this picture it looks like the body of the buckboard was wood but the wheels and wagon-tongue and harness were plastic. https://thumbs.worthpoint.com/zoom/images1/1/0211/22/vintage-power-shop-woodworking_1_1316a976d9fd0f573af3446ba82673a1.jpg
I like the Timpo Eskimo. He is hunting seal or walrus. If you wanted to use him in a conflict scenario how about vs Icelanders? I guess that’s a stretch.
Isn’t the Robert E. Lee figure the one that came from the bagged BMC/Americana Civil War set? I purchased that bag of figures simply because of the excellent Lee & Grant foot figures, but it would take me quite a bit of work to locate the bag to verify that it is the Lee figure which is depicted. I could be wrong, but I’m pretty sure that’s it.
And yes, I now know that BMC & Americana are actually separate companies. But their stuff looks so similar.
Yes, Walmart offers this bagged set ($17.99) on the internet as “BMC Toys, Battle of Appomattox”. Most of the figures in the set are not that great, but as someone (I’m thinking Rusty Kern) said (I’m summarizing): “The set is worth the price just for the two excellent personality figures of Lee and Grant.”
It looks like the Lee from the BMC set to me, too. I also agree with you all that the Lee and Grand figures are worth the price (even though Grant should be shorter – he only stood about 5’7 or ‘8). As far as the rest of them? Well, the Lee/Grant figures are pretty good and worth the price to me…
The Indian was made by PLASTIC TOYS INC. The company was founded by an exBergen Toy & Novelty Co. (BETON) employee. During WWII plastic was rationed and Bergen could not fill all of their orders so they supported Plastic Toys Inc. who copied some of their armymen poses. The Plastic Toys figures all have round bases as opposed to the “peanut” shaped Bergen bases. They made about eight different armymen, five American wild west figures including the Indian and nine farm animals. They went out of business in 1956.
Those knights are KO-HO but as KO-HO copied many they well may be Heirlerne as well as some other say.According to Andreas Dittman they may be KO-HO .
To KOHO are attributed another 6 rare knights i got hand too and admin show two poses here no long ago.
The KO-HO Landsknechts are harder to find than the knights.
The Manurba -Dom plastic Landsknechts are complete different and carry plug in weapons and are more renaissance era late XVI or early XVII centuries. They are shown in catalog.
I think Andrey site in some figures list then in generic way some time not as a way of identification brand .he had other list with not correct brand also in other european figures. His list often uses the exclamation w question simbol before brand name as not positive .
My thoughts/
