Odds Ends Part One Snowstorm. Readers, I’m Collector

Odds Ends Part One Snowstorm.  Readers, I’m Collector we have an interesting selection of topics. First I will relate my experience in our first snow storm of the season. One piece of advice never trust the weather person. Second we have a readers contribution from Detlef  Heerbrand. This is followed by request from Rick Fisher.  Finally I have to waste some time to tell a sad little man I am a collector.

Well we had our first snowstorm. The weather people said 2 to 4 inches. We got seven inches! Laurie’s work closed early and I went to pick her up.  One problem the city had not done a good job of preparing for the snow. Going down the main road I used to pick up Laurie I soon found it blocked. This required me to us other routes. One problem with Allentown it is built on hills.  At one spot I had to go up a hill which other cars were stalling out. It was touch and go. I picked up Laurie and got gas before heading home.

The trip back was not bad until we got Hamilton Street.  This section which normal takes two minutes took 27 minutes. We got on the road we needed and as we got to the bottom of it we found it  the road to go up the hill blocked by the city.  I had go to the right and find another road which I did.  We had no further problems.

Other people we know took five hours or more to get home.  One major road  was block all night.  You can see a video here of that.

Detlef does not like to throw away a damaged figure. He will convert the figure into something new. Recently he found this Jean cowboy with a  broken lasso.

Detlef converted the damaged figure into a cavalry figure with a sword overhead. Nice job Detlef.

Rich Fisher is looking for original Jescan Musketeers. If you have any let me know and I will pass your email along.

Odds Ends Part One Snowstorm.  Readers, I’m Collector  Collector or Dealer

Sad pathetic Hugh Walter is scrapping for ways to to attack me.  His latest is I am a dealer  not a collector.  Because I am a dealer, my collection is very small and I keep showing same thing.  When I saw that comment  I had to laugh.  I am both collector and dealer..

I have been a collector since 1969 when I started to drive. My parents and I would got to flea markets. I would be looking for boy scout items, but I would also picked up toy soldiers.  One of my finds in this period  was a Marx Zorro playset for $8.00.

In 1978, I bought a large quantity of Marx items. The extras I sold and started as a dealer.  From there I became a dealer, but I still was a collector.  As I was buying for resale I would find things for my collection.  Sometimes I would find nothing, other times especially in Europe I would find a lot.

Hugh has no idea the size of my collection. He is assuming from my photos. I will be showing many new items over the coming  year and beyond.

Amazing what Detlef did with cowboy, his repair paint jobs are awesome.
I can attest that the collection Paul Stadinger has is huge and SUPER varied ,his house has every single feet pack with figures from all over world ,most plastic but others such resin ,metal else too .If is true he does not have full sets of most he does have such diversity as to often confuse and buy or get double of same as not recollection of what he had got in years .I was just few days in his house .His three dogs watch the collection very well too ,if you move from one room to other they will watch every step you do ,so funny .One room is about dinosaur ,caveman and dragons for Lauries and is full to the ceiling.
Apparently HW is assuming as usual because he knows all as usual for himself and self ego .LOL
We got 10 ” so far snow ,another coming sunday night .
    best

We have no snow here, but lots of smoke downwind of the big fire. (cough, cough ).
Googled “Hugh Walters” to see what that is about and found his obituary. I guess that’s the end of that.

    • Don Perkins says:

Try leaving the “s” off the end of his last name, and you will find he’s very much alive.

You can also try googling “Small Scale World”, which is the website of Hugh Walter (not Walters), which will also indicate that the Mr. Walter who is the subject of these posts, over in Great Britain, is still around and kicking.

  3. I was lucky enough to start work early on Thursday and was unaffected by the storm. I came in at noon and worked until 2am. The streets were clear when I left. We had problems getting the buses out of the depot the first two hours because of poor planning. It effected the service of the buses the next day also because most of the drivers returned back to the depot late. By law you have to have 8 hours off before driving again.

I never understood why other collectors are worried what other collectors are doing. If you don’t like something, just move along.

    Take Care and keep collecting.

A friend of mine had gone to local mall. The local buses were told stay in place. He had to walk home which took him a half and hour.

I have enjoyed see other collectors’ collections both large and small.
