Odds Ends Part One October 2018 Reader’s Contributions, East German Figures we start of the month with a comparsion Marx figures. As we showed in our last post, Ed Borris got the Mexican figures in a rare color. He will show a comparsion of the different colors. Next Alain Lapointe is back with some other figures he designed Astro Zombies. I got in a recent trade some East German rubber figures.
Odds Ends Part One October 2018 Reader’s Contributions, East German Figures Marx Mexicans
Greg Liska had asked Ed Borris to show the comparsion of color of the Marx Shako Mexicans. As you can see the dark blue and light blue with the teal figure. Kent sSprecher on his site lists four different colors. They are metallic blue, cream, light blue and heritage waxy blue. Kent notes there are many shades of light blue.
Ed said that there are five known sets of the teal at this time.

Alain has share some more figures with us. This time Astrozombies. Here is what he said. In the waiting for the divers to be ready, they may be also interested in this. These a
‘astrozombies’ I made some ago for a commission. They are available on cgtrader. Here is the 3D photo and the dinal result after being painted by Alain.
Odds Ends Part One October 2018 Reader’s Contributions, East German Figures
Detlef and I made a trade. He sent me some of the rubber East German figures. Lot contain DDR and Marolin figures.
Two Indians I like the Indians with pistol and knife. Two different DDR Indians crawling Both Indians have separate weapons.
Here is a farmer and DDR Indian with separate separate
Three Indians kneeling firing bow. The bow goes into a little hole and can easily break. Noticed the different shades of the Indian chiefs. The surprise for me was seeing the smaller mounted Indian chief with knife. This should be from DDR.
The cowboy firing pistol is based on Crescent 54mm cowboy firing pistol. I will do a comparsion pose between this figure and Crescent in near future.
Finally two Indians standing firing bow minus their bow. Notice different shade. of skin color.
Thanks a lot Paul for posting my works.
It should be noted that the two figures I used for comparrison are recasts, the one in the center is a vitage figure.
John Stengel Jr, had been hauling around the unusual colored Mexicans for some time, I have always been looking at them , but this time I pulled the trigger. I also have three other matching figures that I acquired somehwere along the line. A mold shot of Mexicans is the 10 figures shown in the original picture.
Like everyone else on this site, I find Alain’s figures very impressive — unique, original, creative.
As to Ed’s Marx Alamo figures in the unique shade of blue: Yes, the comparison with the other shades clearly shows the difference and how the new color stands out from the typical light blue shade.
Ed, may we ask what price John Stengel Jr. wanted for this Alamo prototype set, and what he is asking for the Union Civil War set, also in the prototype color? I’m planning on seeing John Stengel Jr. in less than three weeks at the Columbus, Ohio Toy Soldier Show, and I’d like to know his price in advance so when he quotes it to me at the show I don’t faint on the spot — like I almost did when he quoted $500.00 for the orange Timmee deuce & a half along with the set of orange North Koreans.
I should mention, lest anyone jump to unwarranted conclusions, that generally John Jr.’s prices are fair & reasonable, and he always has lots of interesting stuff, both old and new. But when he offers something that he knows is rare and that hardcore vintage collectors will want, he prices things accordingly.
I paid $200.00. I wasn’t interested in the Civil War guys, so I didn’t ask a price, I believe I asked in the past and he said $500.00, but I could be wrong. Keep in mind that I usually get a diffferent price then others may get as we have a long standing relationship and have done many deals together. I have purchased from them and sold items to them in volume over the years. Plus I consider us friends.
The teal / turquoise Mexican soldier appears to have some darker plastic mixed into the base or lower leg. Or that could be shadows, hard to say. What criteria or details about these figures reveals them to me ‘originals’ and not reproductions from the 1990’s ? Are the known figures in this color taken from actual play sets or are they all just loose figures?
They are one solid color, no darker spots. As far as I know they were never put in sets. You can feel the difference between an original and a recast, plus I only buy these type of items from a dealer I trust. These figures were taken from the original collection of John Stengel Sr.
Thanks Don 🙂
DDR figures are quite nice and their production range and brand is so huge that took several books in nice color catalog to categorize and recon then.
I have many as child and more as adult.
Their huge range forts and western building are nice too.
East Germany toy factories were only socialist block exporting and producing for world in mass.

The Tim-mee 2 1/2 ton truck in bright red was never sold with their WWII Russian figures. It was sold as a civilian truck in the 1970s as a bin toy. The bright red was to attract the attention of kids. They also sold the military Jeep in red & white as a bin toy or on blister cards and sometimes packaged with their civilian family. At one time a collector from Georgia wanted as many Tim-Mee Russians as he could get and their price went from about $15 each to $150 each for several years. Now days they sell in the $20-40 range depending upon the pose. So John’s price was in line. The red truck should sell in the $25-35 range but when selling it incorrectly as a “Russian” truck it fetches double that or more to the unknowing buyer.
I know that guy.
In my opinion.
It hilarious ask/pay such price x so common toy truck because that color.
The truck was sold under license by Comansi and Comansi indeed have another mold as well the T60 Tank.
There packs mint still sold sometines on “todocoleccion”web site.
Comansi made the truck too in red ,yellow , white and blue in the 80s to be sold as Firetruck, emergency, police and contruction along with specific produced 80s figures they made x it in window cases.
There Venezuelan produced 70s as well in same colors.
The original US TM PP vintage green OD verssion from early to late w minor axel difference are sold by thousand on ebay every years and sale from 15 .00 To 30.00 max.
I got 4 vintage and sold 5
The mexican copied I import and sold is not too far from it and cheap Vietnam era truck to increase your army now VN war new produced figures
My thoughts

Color variations will go for higher prices. The PP truck was marketed with the Timmmee Russian of the same color. The party did not know or care that it was not part of the set. He thought it was neat. Much of the foreign production did not get into the states. If it did it has limited marketing. I have many examples in the collection that were only sold in big cities.
The PP truck is at the top of my list I sell in every condition and they go quickly. The truck mold is missing so you have only the old ones on the market.
I have same exact color from Comansi ,same exact tires and axles ,wonder i put one x sale x half that price if will go quickly !!Some PP were not even marked.
Just x fun
crazy funny world.
The US company who did business with Comansi with the PP,MPC and other US marks molds else was Chambers ,then sold the molds that were repack under ovelina x Comansi
Yeah those vintage PP are very common around in vintage and sale well ,i had seen at garage sale but not recently as ebay had create a signature more common to recon it x value x salers around .So the profit after cost had decline a lot in last years, still is a very fast sale.

The astro zombies are well done and great choice spacesuit.
Wonder what material will be use and what is cgtrader?
They can be use x any ZF scene or even as casualties of space action.
cool nice looking so far in 3D image.

Thanks Erwin. Astrozombies should be printed in resin, filament printing doesn’t allow for much detail. So the final product has the feel of hard plastic. Cgtrader is a webplace where you can upload your 3d works so other eople can download them for 3dprinting or to use in videogames or 3d cgi images.
Who IS that jerk in GA eating up all those Timmee Russians!? Hey……why are you all staring at me like that? Oh……..yeah……
And I Love then.they work perfectly x me and my armies.
I got a ton then and resold rest.
What a deal I got and about 85/90% close to original.
Well done Greg!!.
Too bad more can not be done.I love when recast and reissues of those insane sold vintage are available. Like Gregs russian TM and Mexican made arabs and FFL.
I Understand the like for vintage but x quantities and more easy accesses that is the way.
Best.
Nice Astrozombies, Something different and interesting.
