Plastic Figure Showcase Part 5 Ed Borris, Georg Maiwald Georg Maiwald
Georg Maiwald is back with more conversions. Here he changed the arms of the Britains Deetail Arabs. He made the standing firing rifle pose into standing with rifle. The he took the standing pose with rifle and changed to standing firing rifle.
The other figure from Georg is this Kung Fu figure.

Plastic Figure Showcase Part 5 Ed Borris, Georg Maiwald Extras
There many things I have not seen over the years. Above is an interesting color variation of the MPC jeep. As you can see it is in in orange. I thought it might be from a farm set. Checking Kent’s site I saw only blue for farm set. Have you seen it?
So perhaps there’s hope for the Austin Japanese?
Exciting that it appears the Austin Japanese aren’t completely dead yet.
I look forward to the Austin WWII Japanese, too. The Austin U.S. Marines were outstanding figures, and it’s now time we have opposing force figures which is equally well-done. And from the looks of the prototypes above, they are.
Thank you Don, you get the first bag
Who is the maker of the figure behind the Kung Fu figure he looks great.
hello James ..
the figure is made of soft plastic from the Leyla western series of which there are 6 different types of foot .. in this figure the stetson was exchanged for a hat of the Prussians from the Italeri set.
Thank you so much for your help we recognise what the figure is now you say. We bought a load of Leyla figures from Peter Bergner at the plastic warrior show. So will be converting our figures to match the figure in the picture.
Ed did a great job at the show demonstrating how he does his figure conversions.
Austin minitures had his Japanese prototypes but they were all beat up, missing arms, heads etc. I wouldn’t put to much stock into seeing them done. And to be honest they look a lot like TSSD’s Japs in regards to their poses. Austin did have a couple of interesting foam pieces which if I remember correctly he said he had done himself. Now those would be more appealing in my mind as tghey were really well done.
hello Gary, my japanese prototypes are far from beat up. I just didnt have them put togeher when you were seen them. maybe you should have asked to see them put together before you start putting them down. They will be done chicago 2019. WHAT?
Hey Dan – Thanks for sticking with it and “putting up” with us. We didn’t get a chance to talk at the show, but people still comment about your western buildings that were showcased in the “High Noon” diorama. It would be great to have your Japanese figures added to my battlefield.
The Austin Japanese also looked great when I saw them.
I am excited by them as well as the sculpting looked good. Dan and his family were very happy when I picked up some gunfighters later on Sunday so I am guessing they got pretty good feedback overall.
I like the Austin Japanese figures very much. They are full of action. They look a lot better that the TSSD Japanese figures. Some of the faces on the TSSD figures are too crude. These figures would help fill the void with plastic Japanese figures in the Conte sized WWII figures. I can see a lot of conversions being done. I would buy a bunch of these if they were ever made.
Love the new japanese . Tough and expensive to make a new set. Looking forward to getting them
I saw the Austin Japanese put together and they look very good indeed, I like them a lot. I’ll buy some for sure. I have several more pictures if Stad wants them I can send them too.
The figurs are nice question is if they metal or plastic.
Hello Stad! I had the pleasure of attending this year’s CTSS and it was a great show. A lot of great new and vintage stuff to look at, and a lot of interesting conversations with fellow collectors.
Just FYI there were 8 poses for the 45mm Manurba Army figures. Not shown in the photo is the officer with his sidearm (a small semi-auto), and the standing firing rifleman.
Glad you finally got to show. It is a fun show. We just find it too expensive for us. Air fare from here to Chciago can cost as much going to UK.
The Japanese figures look excellent i hope they really do come out some day
Will be buying four sets of the Austin Japanese they look great have been waiting for theses to come out for a long time.
Still have not heard if they will be done in plastic or metal.
I was hoping Dan would weigh in with his plans.
I could be wrong, but I thought he was leaning towards producing them in plastic. Exactly when we didn’t discuss.
Like the Austin Japanese. Hope they are plastic. Any chance we will see the other Marine poses?
