On Facebook Jay Javier show photos of  Marx 60mm WWI Germans. What made his photos interesting was they were not Warriors of the World but unpainted figures.  Jay called the figure recasts. The question is where did they come from.  The Marx molds for these figures are in China and the people what large quantities.  Mike Ellis did get Marx figures out of China but that was 25 plus years ago. Since then only the boys Scouts and Rough Riders have surfaced from other parties.

The question is are they reissue or or remakes?  They be remakes like the 7th Cavalry and Arabs that CTS had.  In one of the photos Jay has Germans standing firing the rifle  which were never issued by Marx in the series.  Any information will be helpful.

Dulcop did five different Mounties poses two mounted and three foot.  Odds Ends Part Five Chiller Show, Facebook Mystery, Figures The foot poses are with two pistols, standing firing rifle (which is missing) and standing with rifle.  On the mounted poses with rifle and firing pistol. The figures use the standard  horses.

The Chinese copies of the Stuart horses I did not run into until about a year ago. I have only got the horses so I do not know what figures went with them.  The horses are easy to tell from the original. The Chinese copies are open at the belly.

Some of the same Marx 60mm WW1 german figure ‘antiqued’ photos are also featured on a “Wee Men” toy soldier blog posting from 2013, over 5 years ago. They are described as ‘recasts’, but little other info is given.

    • TDBarnecut says:

The german WW1 standing firing rifle pose figures in Jay’s photo appears to be a conversion from the Marx WW1 French standing firing pose.

      • ERWIN F SELL says:

I think these are copies recast made out, the deetail and execess mold around looks very bad.
The B/W photos are in purpose made to disguise it.
The standing is a converssion made.
Looks like a scam fake add.
        My thoughts

        • TDBarnecut says:

Erwin, I don’t think there is any intentional deception. It would be great if Jay would publish some new, clearer & unmodified photos of the same figures so we could get a better look at them.

          • ERWIN F SELL says:

Call then recast is confusing as they had never been reissued.Unless he mean recast in mew mold made.Neither that pose is real original from the set as clearly revised .
And every time any one ask.Response is Figures are not x sale or any source or other not clear answer.
So in my opinion these are some copies made base in revised adapted new cast molds.
Original WW1 sets mold were left in China along w most WOW sets and 6″ many sets.
Marx never did these sets unpainted out of only factory used to make then in HK.

            Sorry.
            My thoughts.
            Best.

          • TDBarnecut says:

Looking at the photos of the ww1 german marching pose, which seem to be better quality images than the others – the surface of the figures are pretty rough, lots of small bumps. This might indicate the original mold is pitted with rust? Maybe the figures are deemed unmarketable.

          • admin says:

From the Marx figures that Mike Ellis ran 25 plus years ago there was no damage. Unless the mold is not properly stored there should not be any problems.

          • ERWIN F SELL says:

Max mold are steel awesone quality and rust will not pup unless very bad expossed to water x many years. If a mold has rust it will not be run in any Industrial mold mass production machine as will damage ruin it complete. No one will do this as if feeling a gas tank w diesels.
Hand presssed machine can nor run or cast using steel mold mass production mold as will not work either.
The mold defect and exess is exact as those showed in arabs and FFL recast made in Mexico x me and CTS w a new mold made as copy of original poses w small mold few run bronze ceramics mold.
The bases differ from original as far the blurr bad pictures show.
Where is that firing pose from???
No other clear photos had ever showed or pup other than these.
Neither compare not other person sold or have mention where were made or who carry then .
No long ago I purchase a odd white arab and sailor 1812 from a seller that says are test chots from marx.I did to find out only .
After simple review and observation it clearly show are copies made .
They differ from or orgininal even in size. The material is very light modern PVC never used by MARX and not odor at all.
I had done plenty photos to show it and can clearly proof those white “so call test shots”are not real.
There some non scrupulous scammer making figure s out there to confuse and sale at ebay ..
Today u can do any w any photo and mame look any.
In these WW1 they looks too fake to me.
Why keep showing same only photos from 5 years ago?
            Why w/b photos?
Why few poses and one revised?
Why no one else had carry , sold these “””reissues””before ever if fom original molds?????
Why few poses and not rest???
Why much mold excess in some poses parts?
            Why bases are different?

            Too many doubts to me.

            Is my observations.

      • TDBarnecut says:

It seems Marx did make a standing firing rifle pose for their WW1 germans, at least for their miniature figure playsets. There is a picture of this pose, still sealed in the original packaging on Rick Eber’s website. The play set is called “Over the Top”.

        • TDBarnecut says:

Could be, maybe the B&W photos are of Marx miniature WW1 german figures and not 60mm ones?

          • ERWIN F SELL says:

Well that will make then more fake ,the post indicate are the 60 mm reissues of original WOW molds. So it is very clear the pictures are to show are reissues of 60 mm figures intentional
I had place same photos next to my original Marx WOW that i have plenty and several differences are clear showing between the two as far the bad photos can show of course .Also of these call reissues why not all poses reissues?.All marx 60mm reissues had been done in exact same amount poses produced originally
Yet is true Marx did several molds for their WOW and 60 mm scale sets as sent to different factories in Germany,UK and HK -Taywan
But the WW1 mold series were never sent to Germany ,Holland or UK factory as far my research indicated .The Marx factories in these countries produced many sets and in Germany case made own original sets with some new different poses never used by US marx factories.
            Their production run as follow.
            Charmore factory”
            Germany
            (1956–1960)

            “Swansea”
            Gt. Britain
            (1960–1962)

            Hong Kong-Taiwan factories
            “WOW”
            (1959–1968) approx
Germany -Heimo that took over Charmore Marx mold and add new poses after and not Marx designed artist related made poses along with original ex Marx the 60 mm sets from 1966-1974 approx. When most these sets were bought (1975/76)and sent to former URSS-Soviet Union factory DZI” that produced some of these sets from 1977 till 1991 then later bough and produced under ARK model in Russia till now.

Neither Germany factories not UK did the WW1 sets 60 mm series under Marx era production
In GERMANY because the WW2 and WW1 sensitivity the germans sets were never produced and molds never brought by Marx .
In Mexico(Plastimarx ) factory the same sets were never sent and only modern sets sent were the US 10 poses Gi’s in 60 mm with wounded and camp 60mm personal set only along with early 60 mm set poses as well.
All WW1 and British- germans WW2 sets along NATO,generals sets molds were only sent to HK and Taiwan factories as far we know.
About non WW1 sets white version sold at ebay
Now interesting info come from some European friends today that indicate both Marx Charmore and holland(never known factory name ) did produced unpainted version to be paint in quantities in base mate white color in typical early soft plastic not same as standard marx soft plastic used in US factories. These could be the so call white 60mm copies we see around by Ebay sellers but according to all photos and european collectors that own these non painted version in white they have the Germany or Holland country name words bellow base engraved while these sold at ebay do not have any mark bellow at all ,neither FFL and arabs were sent produced in Europe at all either and sold in same white style in ebay w out marks;making the matter more confusing yet as can not be considered from Marx German or Holland mold either then.
            My thoughts.

The Marx 60mm Foreign Legion have shown up in a tan in the UK. I got one at PW but the figure was to fragile and broke.I also got some of the Arabs in traditional colors. The WWI Germans and French were from the third series of WOW. These figure were new production not the reuse of molds. Marx did a 25mm playset set for WWI which is very rare.

I couldn’t find the pics on FB; which page is it on? I’d like to check them out.

  3. Daniel Murphy says:

I have no idea if these Germans are from the original molds or copies. I do know that a number of years ago I was able to buy a bunch of recast Marx 60 mm Spanish American War figures at a long defunct independent dollar store. They were made in a rough green stiff and somewhat brittle plastic with a non-glossy surface that seems somewhat similar to that of the Germans in the pictures.

    • ERWIN F SELL says:

the SAW recissues were import from HK and yes along with ACW 60 mm i got then from dollar store in FL long ago too, only WW1 recissues in 90s from HK-China molds were those ,batch of those were brought by british seller dealer as Admin says and distributed here by several dealers from him as well.Dollar store tha got hand on then brough then direct from HK imports dealers direct .I did contact one then and he explain where was warehouse location that still bring stuff from there as well. This molds and factory that produce then not longer had then now.
