    I have a question .
The figures poses and detail of course are super well done .
    But..
The mask was used often in VN war to be represented in 3 poses
    Best

  2. Evanoelrichs says:

What material are these in because I know the Vietnamese are a rubberish plastic similar to old conte, but the first Americans were all resin

  3. ERWIN F SELL says:

They are same material as VC and later production ,you most had gotten the first batch made with early material on Americans

Incredible sculpts as always from Plastic Platoon, but I agree with Erwin that there are too many gas mask poses. I don’t think I’ve ever seen one photo of an American soldier in Vietnam with a gas mask. Plenty of Stateside pics of troops with gas masks in that era, but these guys are too heavily armed for National Guardsmen suppressing hippie insurrectionists.

    • ERWIN F SELL says:

Mark your last sentence words made me laugh a lot ,but is true after seen too many with mask and I ask question especially waiting x some who were in VN war and tell if reality they use it so often as to be put in 4 figures in a 6 poses set .
I know the sarin and nerve gas were used in some small minor mission over Laos and Cambodia border .It was the orange agent was the more most used in Ranch Hand but to what effect soldiers were required at the moment to use in the areas affected i don’t know .
For me is same as the WW2 german gas mask that barely used ,still soldiers used in bunkers ,building during smoke fire or heavy bombardment to survive the smoke fumes and so on and there many photos, documentary of then using it in action.Yet i had seen so few documentary or none with US in VN war using it .

  5. Tom Black says:

I agree 4 poses of gas masks is too much. When I saw the headline I thought they were doing WW1! A nice set of Green Berets or prone army poses would have been my choice.

  6. Brian Johnson says:

Outstanding as usual but those d**n mini mountain bases really chafe my chaps!!

    • Erwin says:

Easy cut and put in u flat bases if wish.
Todays makers unless Chinese or some cheap LESS detailed makers such AIP, MARS will do it all time using terrain else mini bases.

  7. Jeremy Haupt says:

While I have liked most of the Plastic Platoon releases and have purchased them…this set is a bit on the zombie apocalypse side of things.

  8. ERWIN F SELL says:

Well i’m waiting to some actual veteran to say if they used then so often ,especially at Hue battle as they claim used …
so far i had not found any strong evidence supporting it .so my guess is not and so far This set is down in my collection as not in my interest unfortunately ,WHILE rest done by PP are awesome well done .Hope continue doing not odd mask poses next time .

  9. ERWIN F SELL says:

So far it is as usual super well designed sculpted and made .
However im exposing my personal critique observation
Is true figures are correct portrayed for specific battle “”only”” .

After some footage and video war research plus googling information it definitely show the Marines and possible some soldiers as well South Vietnamese soldiers used Gas Mask in the battle of Hue as correct represented in figures .
Plastic Patton owner Mikhail decide make an specific set with then even so they were barely used in overall jungle Vietnam war .While the figures portray historically correct the part of this city battle and use of gas mask as photo and video below show .The figures will have a limited use in other scenes of the war as have the gas mask head permanent on .
As stated by other collectors and Paul to me a plug in separated head without mask optional would had resolved this and made set more general use and not specific x this battle only.
    My thoughts

    Findings.
According to documentation marines ,ARVNM and US army were supplied by last days with mask as they were using tear gas in to building to flush enemy off and kill the remaining resistance.
I had decide not put the data links here but in separated post after this .
However a youtube video will be show here if admin does not mind please.
Finally a documentary you tube (no audio) show clear images of Marines 2nd battalion from 5th regiment using gas mask as they prepare clear building in Hue.
You will see it at 02:24:19 minutes of video time approximately.

  10. ERWIN F SELL says:

Personal account by a soldiers in the battle were reference is made in use of tear gas .Clearly an indication they had to use gas mask in order to proceed ahead of tear gars used in building they are attacking .

  11. ERWIN F SELL says:

According to this veteran provided documentation army/marine data it explain all marines were supplied with gas mask as part of equipment in the specif battle .

  12. ERWIN F SELL says:

Last but not least while reading the battle from several sources and veterans accounts and in blogs i found out two interesting facts ..
Description of Hue battle .With photos showing marines with gas mask .
    Two interesting data .
The fact the South Vietnamese regular army did held very well and hard their main base against overwhelming Communist odds till marines and other ARVN forces reinforce then .Contrary to popular belief most ARVN were not good fighters.

Other data is the mentioning of Australian personal in the allied base that also hold very well .(Here the use of GUN-HO australian soldiers made figures as a possibility for those who had them)
    My thoughts.

After looking at these figures and images i come to another personal conclusion.Even so the figures are exceptionally well done and super deep detail i had doubts about realism versus war real moments that may be the artist many ideas as well.
If look at any documentary photage you will noticed that most if not all marines/soldiers have not such amount gear/ordnance attached to their body/uniform in combat as if they just arrive to VN war from a delta flight from NYC airport or training camp school like the figures shows
The real men in action are seen with uniform or wore off, missing gear and else ,while these figure looks well too fix uniformed to me to be real combative looking at real scenario .So in this case TSSD and even Mars figures are more suitable war realistic than these in my opinion.

  14. TDBarnecut says:

Could be PP figures are special ops ‘Mountain’ troops. See – they are standing on mountains.:)

    • ERWIN F SELL says:

Yeah i though Hue battle was actually a incide city terrain area battle ,but i guess these guys were climbing the hills around and now may looks like 65 mm or taller ..
May be x Battle of Hamburger Hill!?
      Best

  15. ed borris says:

Most , not all, but most of the images I have seen of the Battle for Hue, the Marines did not wear their back packs. Again most images show flak jackets were worn. Since these guys have gas masks, I would assume they were designed for Hue. So, that being the case they may be a little overdone with all the guys wearing back packs, but it is not totally inaccurate.
