Darren Hatley’s Warriors, Aztecs Knight Conversions Darren is back with more conversions. Each figure is very interesting an part of the fun is figuring out what figures he used.
Darren Hatley’s Warriors, Aztecs Knight Conversions Pictures
Here is Darren’s comments on the figures. Here are just a small example of some of the figures ive Converted and Painted over the years, The 1st and 2nd picture are of 3 Warrior type figures i put together with different figures and then painted, The next 3 pictures are of Aztec or South American figures that we have talked much about recently. I put them together using mainly American indian figures and painted. And the final 3 pictures are of knights that i did using many Bits and Bobs peices. I also do lots of Fantasy Monster figures but i thought i would concentrate on human figures this time. As usual i you Quick Grip glue and Super Glue, And Humbrol Paints.
A closeup of the center figure
More Aztecs the center figure could be converted from a Crescent figure.
A nice variety of poses for his Aztec army. (Note the pictures have hair that Darren did not relaize was on the lens.)
Several different knights with axeSeveral different knight in same pose with different weapons Crossbow man along with a knight with axe and knight with mace.
Our last group of knights the center knight from the Britains Deetail with a different leg stance.
Darren Hatley’s Warriors, Aztecs Knight Conversions Final Thoughts
Once again Darren has come up with some interesting figures through conversions. We will have to wait until time for some more surprises.
I can see why Darren is strongly interested in the new Chintoy Aztecs/Mayans, since he already has a strong foundation for an Aztec army. I hope the new Chintoy versions can fit in with his existing figures and conversions — I’m sure they will.
I guess it’s a measure of a good conversion that you have difficulty figuring out where the original figure came from. I don’t think I can identify where any of them came from, except possibly the one wearing the leopard skin headress reminds me of one of the Reamsa Aztecs.
Good job. The painting blends everything together perfectly.
I just realized the wolfhead coverings could have come from the Airfix or BMC Indian figures. Upon closer inspection, I can see they’re not leopard heads.
Thanks Don i’m interested in all history but Ancient and Medieval history from all countrys and cultures interest me the most, So i am looking forward to the chintoys South American figures coming out and hopefully they will fit in with the several Aztec type figures ive tried to create as there are not many of them about. If i remember rightly the Aztec figure in the middle with the wolfs head is made mainly from a Crescent Indian with a couple of bits from other figures, And as i’m sure you can guess Don all my conversions are 50mm to 60mm Lol.
Very well doe ,great conversation , like the aztecs warriors ideas innovation conversion most .The paint really made then looks as complete new made figures.
best
Thanks Erwin i try to do figures in different colours, But i think Aztec figures are best done in light pastel colours.
interesting idea-thought!!!
Nice conversions! I remember cutting up those Timpo Knight recasts and the plastic was mixed with what looked like ground up cardboard? Have you tried conversions of Ex Force 100 yrs War and Barzso/LOD Sheriffs Men/Robin Hood, Marx 60mm Knights, Reamsa?
Thanks Tom, Ive done so many conversions that i cant even remember what some of them were, But yes i have used Timpo King Arthur Knights recasts and Originals in some ive done. I believe ive done a couple of those figures you mention but not many, But in time?
Hi Darren
Did you use original Timpo knights in your conversions? What figures did you use for your crossbow man? (good crossbow men are hard to find & the best seem to be conversions in my estimation)
Thanks for sharing your imagination.
Your welcome Michael, I use Timpo Recasts mainly but i have used some originals as well. The crossbow man i made from some cheap Knights and Warriors bag of figures that you can find easily on ebay or amazon.
Very creative work. I love conversions and seeing others’ work. For me, half the fun of collecting is the painting of my figures. Just need stronger glasses now. LOL
Thanks Michael ive got plenty more for you to see in the months and years ahead as long as its ok with Paul of course. I also have done many Fantasy figures which i might put a few of them on next. I know what you mean ive just turned 50 and i am starting to wear glasses more and more over the last couple of years, Especially for doing some of the more intricate painting, I’m ageing i guess.
Thanks for the really nice comments guys, Ive been away and have only just got back which is why i haven’t replied to anyone on these figures. I will answer everyones comments and questions over the next day or 2.
