Plastic Figure Showcase Part Two April 2018 we are back with some interesting figures. We will look at some mystery Indians from Australia. There are other mystery figures as well. Next we get your thoughts on the MPC stagecoach. Lots of items to enjoy and ponder.
Plastic Figure Showcase Part Two April 2018 Photos
These the figures are mystery that has been circulated for some time in the hobby. They have been identified as from Australia. The mystery is who made them. One possible source is Consolidate. Hopefully information will come up to clarified this.
The plastic companies did circus figures. At the time they were popular form of entertainment. Today circuses have lost their popularity for various reasons. The figure is from Charbens. It is a dog dressed up.
Now for some mystery figures, the figure on is a jungle hunter and is 60mm. The figure on the right is also 60mm. It maybe from Reamsa and is repainted. Update the cowboy is Charbens,
The next two figures are from Eastern Europe. I do not know who made them.
Timmee western fence here in red. They did the fence in red, tan, cream and yellow.
MPC did a stagecoach which I find somewhat disappointing. What are your thoughts?
Sometimes you can use a figure from a different set for something else. An example of this is the above figure from the Mokarex French Revolution. The figure is Lazare Carnot who was a mathematcian and part of the French Revolution. I would use him as a pirate captain even if the clothes are wrong.
Here we have one of Lido World War II Germans. What do you think of these figures?
The MPC stagecoach is actually a surrey. It is a great period piece for the south.
I agree with you it is just that MPC did it as stagecoach.
The knights abd soldier next to are made in Poland I have full sets belong too.Ussually all atributed to one single maker brand .I see it w skepticism.
The explorer is from Spain i think or copies of other maker looks crude made too, cowboys looks like a conversion else of other brand.. I need check once home.
Australian figures are interesting in semi flat style more as premium style.I use some as Aztec or Incas.

I haven’t seen those Indian figures before but I like them and I agree Erwin that some could indeed be used as Inca Warriors, I would like to get some do you know what scale they are?
Darren i got some same poses and are 45/50 m max approx .
I sent you photos

I like the Lido Germans even though they are smaller than the Lido GIs and do not match due to having bases. I use them for members of a Penal Regiment ala the Sven Hassel novels, alongside my Airfix and Marx Germans as the regular forces. They aren’t as detailed as Airfix and Marx but they have more character and seem more sinister. They have a great “Bad Guy” vibe, especially the man firing the MG 34 from the hip.
I had an MPC stagecoach as a child but I never used it for a western stagecoach. It looked too fancy so I used it for a medieval coach with my Marx Carryall castle. I eventually gave it to my friend’s younger sister to use as a Cinderella style carriage.
Lido Germans are well done interesting much better action poses that Germans by Marx in my opinion, the uniform and gear looks more realistic than most 50s /60 US brand made Germans and many european production as well.,they mark the helmets with what looks a decal and the poses Kneeling with flamethrower and kneeling with panzerschreck are first ever done in plastic old production as far I know in germans figures in US and UK/EUROPE productions as Britain come much after 1971 and Dulcop ,ESCI,Matchbox same .
The add of bases was another plus in these and japanese versus almost all rest poses by LIDO without bases. The set has a curious pose throwing a less known what appear to be WW1-Kugelhandgranate Brennzünde grenade but may be a M39 grenade or its variants see here and used extensively by Germans in WW2.http://www.inert-ord.net/ger03a/gerhgr/m39/index.html.
I manage get many Lido original in a palm beach shows in 90s ,seller put then mix with lido Gi’s mix and had not clue in maker of figures ,he was a simple seller of toys figures .I got lucky and bough a lot of not less 40 figures in awesome condition ,kept 2 poses each and sold rest off at another show .
Later i manage get a set of LIDO early not later good HK copies and made conversion of then .One day will show photos here if possible.
I had used the MPC carriage as napoleonic train cargo carriage .
My thoughts.

The white hunter was made in England and is from a set by Speedwell, he should be carrying a rifle in right hand but this has been cut away. The cowboy with knife beside him is by Charbens.
I did it again. My mind was saying Charbens but Reamsa also pop up. LOL
The white hunter is part of a set by Speedwell. In the set was also a white hunter prisoner on the same base as his captor who pushes the captive with one hand and holds a spear in the other. The Africans were in black plastic. There is also a sitting witch doctor with horned head dress and another native throwing a spear. I need the captive and captor to fill in my set. i swapped them to another collector many years ago and ave regretted it for years. There is also a snake in the set but I never had that one. i had these figures when I bought them from a childhood friend. When his mum bought him Indians these were mixed up with them.
The white hunter which you feature was copied by HK and in brown plastic. I have never seen copies of the others. The white plastic hunter got brittle but not the black plastic figures.
Yes there is always a figure we traded dor sold we regret not keeping.
I have only a copy of the white hunter which i painted in the original simple scheme. The prisoner set my friend used to cut into two figures.
The Charbens cowboy is available in a dark blue hardish plastic recast if anyone wants one; they pop up occasionally and I’m pretty sure Kent has some on his site. MPC wagons are kind of junky in general, also too large for 54mm collections. If you want really nice stagecoaches, look for Britains, Elastolin and Plasty. I like all three better than the old brown Marx version. They can be pretty expensive, but we get what we pay for. Jean makes a nice stagecoach which runs less expensive than the others I mentioned.
Talking about somethink completely different.I was watching American Pickers the other evening,S13 E6, its on in the UK here and they were ‘picking ‘ the official MAR/MARX museum which had been closed for 12 months and the owner was selling off his collection. Most of the toys picked and bought were metal because Frank ,the bearded one is in to these toys. However you did get to see loys of Marx toy soldiers and Playsets on display in cabinets. It was a shame the owner was selling up.I think the show was in 2017. The museum was not far from the original Marx factory.
The show was bitter sweet for collectors over here. Many collectors had visited the museum Laurie and I included. The museum was nice, but did not get the draw Francis hoped for. Frank of American Pickers is more geared to the tin. Frank was born in 1965 so he missed the playset era and with Mike is into automotive. Yes it it was near the factory in West virginia
I always hoped to get to the museum one day if I ever ventured back into that neck of the woods; sadly, I haven’t made it in time.
As far as the MPC stagecoach, I recall two versions my brother and I got in the MPC “Dodge City” (or was it “Gunsmoke”? I don’t remember) playset. I remember being disappointed it wasn’t Ft Apache so I didn’t pay much mind. Still, I loved the buildings and mountains that came with it and used them with my Blue and Gray figures. But I digress… Anyway, one was what we interpreted to be a “Stagecoach.” It didn’t look like the ones on TV, but I didn’t know of any others available at the time. Since then, I’ve learned there were some that had canvas sides that could be rolled up for air – if you didn’t mind the dust. So I guess it’s not as bad as I first thought.
The other top definitely rendered it into a surrey, something my big brother taught me – so that was okay, too. Those wagons, with the other MPC schooners and buckboards provided a mainstay of my 19th Century transportation throughout my childhood as we only had the Marx Medical wagon from the Giant Blue and Gray and our caisson got busted up in a move. I didn’t mind some of the outlandish colors until I grew somewhat older.
I had some of those up into college when someone stole a box of my stuff from childhood I had stashed in the closet. I didn’t realize it until I moved out of the apartment after graduation and I moved again to a place where I could break them out. I lost a couple plastic Fort Apaches (walls and blockhouses), MPC wagons, and Marx Battleground/Desert Patrol tanks and Vehicles. I figured it was one of the maintenance men as the closet I kept them in was where the water heater and circuit box was.
Thankfully, I’ve been able to replace them through Ebay – but it’s not quite the same. I’m just glad the guy didn’t grab a box full of my figures.
The Speedwell or copy crude hunter pose or explorer looks very alike Marx safari pose in reverse position and shorts .Wonder who got it first !?
I agree about MOKAREX pose could well be use as pIrate from XVII century or early XVIII too ,the clothing are perfectly fine for that purpose and era.
The German pose clubbing with ballonet by LIDO was accepted while the Marx 6″ a bit alike pose was not as too cruel else .Interesting fact i think!!!
My thoughts
I wonder if Mokarex figures would ever be re-issued, perhaps in soft plastic?
Think there was a soft plastic reissue some years ago of at least some of the WW I figures in nice blue plastic. Cannot track the information on those at the moment and never did see any of the figures.
Should go more often to French shows but to much work and to short of time.
Maybe our French friends can add up extra information.
At least the hard plastic originals are still out there and turn up quite reasonable priced from time to time.
So, not sure if I recall it correctly, sometimes the originals can come out cheaper than the mentioned reissue.
oh, here it is.
2011.
I’m getting old

Yes those soft version are actually much harder find than old one in stiff plastic, you can get large lot from France ,belgium else cheaper on then.
On mokarex I do not collect much minus action napoleonic mounted poses ,few medievals and the nice WW1 action poses french thy did .Charters are nice but i get then as cheap or last chance possible .Same goes for CAFE STORM .
best…
