Reader’s Contributions Interesting Links Other Items That Are Interesting first we have a contribution from Erwin Sell. He has found some interesting items in various stores that collectors might want to add. Then Ed Borris  send us various photos of figures that might be inappropriate.  I have a few interesting links including a French company that used copies of Marx and Timmee. I will round it out with photos of some interesting figures.

Reader's Contributions Interesting Links Other Items That Are InterestingErwin found this interesting chess set at Game Stop.  The chess set is call Fallout. It is based on a role playing game of the same name.

Reader's Contributions Interesting Links Other Items That Are Interesting

The set has two sides mutants and humans. they are made of PVC plastic and 1/32 scale.

Another item that Erwin found were these 1/35 scale  copies of 21st Century figures.

Erwin reports that they have civilians that might be able to use in your World War II.

Ed Borris shares with us some Alamo figures that can be file under inappropriate figures. Here is what Ed has to say.

Brain Salad – this is a figure I suggested to Plastic Underground a few years ago.  He turned into reality.  The Mexican is bayonetting the downed Texan who in turn is blowing the brains out of the Mexican.  You can see the brains exiting the shako hat.

Reader's Contributions Interesting Links Other Items That Are InterestingThe head – this was a figure converted by Bob Jones from England. I had done him some favors by obtaining figures for him at a couple shows. So he made this figure for me out of a Del Prado figure.

Reader's Contributions Interesting Links Other Items That Are Interesting

The blood pool- another colorful Plastic Underground figure, he made this one on his own and he was originally a Civil War figure. I had him expertly painted by Jim Clouse as a dead Alamo Mexican.

The final figure Ed calls cannon ballcatcher. As you can see the guy is getting gutted by a cannon ball.   He was another Plastic Underground figure that he had painted up expertly by Jim Clouse as an Alamo Mexican.

Ed wonders how people would react to graphic scenes of vilokence. What do you  think?

Reader’s Contributions Interesting Links Other Items That Are Interesting  Links

I have a couple of interesting links to share with you.  First we have a link to some interesting copies of figures.  Bonux or Bonus in France offered over time plastic figures. Some are original as far as I know while other are copies of figures. You can see that had Timmee Gi’s and Marx sports and knights copies.  They are marked with the name Bonux.  I will be keeping a lookout for them.  Bonux figures

Nordplast 1/18 scale Russian Spetsnaz Here is a video review of them from a  collector Marcus Romero

Greg Liska found this lot on Ebay of Marx Figures.  As you can see the person wants at least $2000.00. This the second time the person has tried to sell this lot for the same price.

We will close this section with a few interesting photos.  We have here one the Pech Hermanos Tarzan. The figures  were reissued by Bum of Spain.

Here is one of the Lafredo large Indians. I have enjoyed finding their figures.

Reader's Contributions Interesting Links Other Items That Are Interesting

The figure on the left is a Jim French soldier. The king on the right is from Parker Brothers. The figure is from game. I have no idea what game as I found it in a junk box so many years ago.

I had my laugh of the day when a very sad person claimed that I show items from my collection for ego purposes.  That is further from the truth.  What I am doing sharing what I have found so other people can see what is out there.  This what a lot people do on Facebook. I will talk more in another post.

Is it possible that the king in the last photo is from a chess set?

  2. ed borris says:

Aside from firing a bow what is the Indians doing? Is he precariously perched on a green rock or is he somehow levitating over a green leafy plant? I’m stumped, pardon the pun.

    • admin says:

The Indian is standing on a green something.

    • ERWIN SELL says:

      Ed.
The indian friend just jump over a cactus and is in pain but using his magic power to concentrate and shoot=release bows(just in case i write “fire arrow”) for others who may jum and correct me…
side note his angle down view and look in face are well done in my opinion.
This Spaniard brand is interesting ,their knights are unique well done ,while later they dedicate to copy TIMPO solid line and some Marx as well in contrast to all original made .A rare choice made by them.

  3. OIF-Retread says:

the K-Line figures were made for O gauge trains, so they should be more in the 1/48th sized range; however there is a lot of leeway when it comes to figures for toy trains. K-Line has since gone out of business, so they will be harder to find.

    • ERWIN SELL says:

Yes i agree and original post sent to admin says it was made x train series as i got it at train show and saw rest line so far with another moder type military series(copies varied of New Ray) poses and civilians plus animals. All do the sets are sold or intended as 1/50 scale not 1/48 .They are by high 48/51mm that i consider 1/35 scale ,I Also did photos next to 21 century to show scale and minor differences made in uniforms of sets poses copied.
They are abundant at those shows as well ebay .Funny is when they come out first they were priced higher that original sold price of 21 century sets .
when figures are line next to train of same series they are over the limit scale ,something the maker did odd .

      https://www.ebay.com/itm/K-line-K-42315-WWII-10-Hand-Painted-U-S-Army-Hard-Plastic-Soldiers-1-50-NEW/173032163579?hash=item28498548fb:g:yz8AAOSw-29ZQgmz

My brother is and enthusiast train collector of two scales maleny and always take me to those shows. These figures looks to me interesting as above the supposelly 1/50 scale or any intended for .
I also bought at same show a POLA and other german buildings in their G scale(not their SMALL scale) when appear cheap that for generally odd reason are marked lower that any other scale building at these train show or what i will could depreciated value in my opinion.
In same show i bought a big lot deal of G scale as well a beautiful western building hotel and saloon made by that brand I will do photos soon too.
      my thoughts.best

  4. Don Perkins says:

The Marx lot Gregg Liska found on ebay, for which the Seller wants to start the bidding at $2,000.00, is interesting.

Based on the Seller’s statement that the lot contains just under 1100 figures, that comes to about $1.90 per figure (which, again, is where he wants to start the bidding).

This would not necessarily be unreasonable for SOME Marx figures, but in this case the listed figures are of the most common variety around — Blue & Gray, WWII military, and Fort Apache pioneers and Indians, most of which are of the butterscotch color.

Most of these figures can easily be purchased for $1.00 each at shows, and in the case of 54mm Fort Apache pioneers and Indians, and WWII OD green Americans, as well as Germans, for quite a bit less — often at fifty cents each. In the case of Blue & Gray figures, which used to sell for $3.00 each, and then went to $2.00 each, a show attendee can frequently now find them for just $1.00 each.

But in this ebay lot, selling every figure in the entire lot for $1.00 each would come to $1100.00. However, every one of the figures shown are exactly the type of commonplace Marx which increasingly just “sit” at the shows, with few or no takers among those experienced collectors who are now just about the only ones who attend toy soldier shows anymore. There aren’t very many “brand new” collectors who all of a sudden decide to show up for one of our toy soldier events. The big majority are collectors like me, who already have hundreds of Blue & Gray, Ft. Apache pioneers & Indians, and 54mm WWII figures. I think this is one reason why demand for these very common Marx figures has plummeted.

And you can bet that if I were to purchase some 1100 common Marx figures all at one time, in one big lot, from one seller, I would definitely be expecting some sort of “quantity discount”.

The Seller, in this case, sounds like someone who’s still living in the 1980s, at the height of the vintage toy soldier resurgence, but who today doesn’t have a clue — which is not to say that some abysmally ignorant ebay buyer might not end up bidding on this lot. But I doubt it.

    • ed borris says:

That’s a fact, someone bought the Marx 6″ German Stabbing downward for $560.00 recently which is way above the selling price I have seen. More like $100.00 to $150.00 would be a decent price. The again, we are never quite sure what shennanigans tke place on these E-Bay sales.

Anyway, if I were to buy those 1,100 common Marx figures many of which will be broken or damaged no doubt, I’d pay like $400.00. Of course, if I bought them I’d re-sell them and would be looking to turn a profit.

      • Don Perkins says:

You’re probably right, Ed, in terms of what they’re real market value might be.

The famous words of your partner, Mike Kutnick, at OTSN about 3 years back, come to mind. When Mike was confronted with the seller who had a room full of Marx recasts which he was eagerly offering to each room visitor for a total price of $1000.00, Mike explained why he couldn’t go for it: “I have a hard enough time just selling original vintage stuff, much less a big hoard of recasts.”

        • ed borris says:

That and I wouldn’t pay $500.00 for a room full of re-casts. I don’t like waiting 3 years to make my investment back. Although you would be surprised what some of these clowns pay for thinsg on E-Bay.

          • Don Perkins says:

I think Mr. Kutnick’s actual words were: “It’s hard enough these days selling original vintage stuff, much less a hoard of recasts.”

  5. Tom Black says:

The Bonux French Army figures look nice! Does anyone know what scale they are? I suppose they were never recasted.

    • ERWIN SELL says:

The french INDOCHINA war era soldiers are 54mm ,i got two Bonux and are copied varied of other mix brands based in such Quiralou, cofalu,STARLUX from France, some of these poses were sold under VILCO brand not market in bags in late 70s ,they are not hard to find in big lots off ebay international ,from France, spain ,portugal, italy and belgium generally. Also from (todocoleccion) bid Spaniard web site.
      best

    • Jack Gibbons says:

I just won a large lot of vintage soldiers and there were three of these figures included. I figured they were French. Luckily, Stad placed this link up and I quickly picked them out. The scale is approximately 40mm, just like the smaller Starlux figures. The detail is good and there is no identification on the bottom of the bases.

      • ERWIN SELL says:

There many copiers of them in 70s unpainted many sets in the 40/45 mm ,the Starlux same scale as well were copied too
Quiralou made a line of army ,marines and paratroopers in 40/45 mm that were copied unpainted later too.

I have the 54 mm line of Vilco as well others with paratroopers,FFL,marines and soldiers ,plus few commandos .
most these are copy of QUIRALOU original poses made in 60 mm before .

There was even a Spaniard pipero small company that sold copies as well .
Hugonnet -Feral was one of the latest copier of many original french brand sets that sold then unpainted in bags with mix colors till 80s i think
        Best

  6. ERWIN SELL says:

My personal opinion is because as you say Don too many are abundant ;the way he/she had post it will hard to sale ,i would have done split lots in my opinion to use as bid and probably end with much profit .
Aso many are late figures and as far my experience goes i had found many of those in under $1.00 each easy at big paile lots. Also seller have poor photos of most and no detail of use or nay damage per figure is showed ,so a lot risk taken there too.
My thoughts only as i’m not a MARX else fan ,neither seller .I do collect many marx ,but most i got are reissued unless too rare never reissued./best

    • ed borris says:

He does mention that some are damaged, but he portrays it as minor damage. The trouble with that lots is they are probably the mmost common and cheapest Marx figures you can have. If you are a purely a collector and you want a lot of those type of figures the price isn’t that bad, but for a delaer it’s no good, no room for profit. You would be hard pressed to get $2.00 a figure for those figures. The Civil war if not too damaged could tip the scale for you, but it would probably take a long time to reach the break even point.

  7. Henry Paas says:

i’ve never bought ed borris figures cause i like unpainted but otherwise i’m really tempted i don’t understand the conversation on gore these are army toys gore is what kept me going as a kid battles are not pretty how are zombies acceptable but a cannon ball going through someone not even alive in the same century as you? its not like you knew this guy down the road honestly lets be serious most of the people buying this stuff are older collectors ig that’s why their “underground” i love his ideas though i know allot of people knock replicants but i love the home made feel from those and these when i look at them if anything that’s our only source of cheap figures now a days its not like you can go to the store and get a good bag of cheap figures now every once in awhile we get spoiled with forces or valor etc but its rare we get any attention payed to 1/32 scale or the slightly bigger 60mm i wish we could have one good in scale vehicle as i mentioned above forces of valor but their too small to go with tssd they look best with airfix or marx i like the sell tank that came out i never got one but i see them often and for a good price and that makes me feel warm

    • ed borris says:

I didn’t make those , I only convert and paint them in playset colors. I have to paint my conversions one color as they are uusually made from random figures of different colors . Three of those figures shown are made by a company called Plastic Underground. A one man operation he sculpts , molds, pours and paints them. He only sells them painted now , but in the distant past he sold unpainted If you click on my name at the side of this site you cn see my conversions and how they are painted, but they are all Alamo conversions.

      • Henry Paas says:

alamo is really good time period i personally need more civil war figures and honestly more Alamo wouldn’t hurt either

  8. Mark T. says:

While I really like the “displaying a trophy head” pose in miniatures, particularly barbarian or ancient figures, I don’t really like the Alamo guy getting his brains blown out or the one cut in two by the cannon. I mean, they are well done figures and the sculpting is excellent and if I saw them at a shop for a half-decent price, I might buy them for the novelty, but they are a bit too gooshy for me to go out of my way to order. Guys holding up heads are OK, but I guess I draw the line at internal organs. The figure lying in the pool of blood is nice, but I don’t like casualty figures to have bases.

If you want to see some REALLY inappropriate figures you have to look at some 1/72 sets. They have figures shooting bound hostages, displaying heads, taking a leak, cavorting with nude bar girls, rape vignettes, and even a full set of various soldiers of different eras enjoying the amorous favors of paid female companions. Check out Plastic Soldier Review. Notorious sets are Orion/Haron Chechen War, Linear B Roman Civilian sets and MIR “Classified X” set. Strelets even released a set of WW2 German einsatz kommando.

    • ed borris says:

The guy getting his brains blown out may be my all time favorite figure, it may be a bit dramatic, but I imagine that type of scene took place back then.

I’ve seen those 1/72 figures you are talking about. I look at that guys site about once a week

      • Henry Paas says:

i like it cause it has allot of action to it for conversion its definitely pretty fantastic looking slightly cartoonish but that’s why i like these and replicants cause of their fantastical appeal whenever i buy the dark age figures from replicants i get a lotr vibe and it makes me want ot read Tolkien would love to see some plastic underground viking stuff some day i feel like they might already exist i love that they covered the civil war and Indian wars always a safe time period to cover imo always need more cowboys, viknigs and gi’s

    • Henry Paas says:

jeez guy nobody said they wanted rape figures i was js i wanted more causalities i like his stylistics that’s all

      • Mark T. says:

Hey Henry, I’m sorry if you thought I meant you wanted rape figures. I was just saying there are a lot of offensive figures to be found in 1/72 scale that you can see on PSR. Didn’t mean for you personally. Sorry if I upset you.

        • Henry Paas says:

you didn’t upset me i was picturing in the realm of battle not so much gruesome i understand your logic i see those Bosnian war figures from time to time in 1/72 and mars recently made a Somalian set i just avoid political discourse honestly this is a small hobby and i don’t think we need that honestly i do agree that causality poses are a fun way to make something look more live like that is what i was getting at i may have over stated the importance on gore but i was actually talking about how i support more dynamic poses and less of the same old boring marching poses i think a cannon ball going through someone is a great ideas cause nobody mentions stuff like that did in fact happen napoleon in fact once ordered a cannon to be shot into one of his staffs chest for disobeying orders

  9. ERWIN SELL says:

Some Metal figures are far gruesome and in some cases almost porno gross ,you can see many in ebay .My observation .
