Bill Nevin’s Flea Market Finds 2017 Plus Mystery Question Finds
Here are some interesting items that , I picked up at the flea market this year. It was a slow year, with several rain outs. Anyway here are few finds:
Pic 1 thru 4: I spied a Marx Knights Caryall under a vendor’s table and I pulled it out to examine it. The tin was beat up and rusted. Since I’ve learned to follow my nose, I opened it up expecting to find the usual Vikes and Knights and maybe some good accessories. If I could grab it for ten bucks or so, it may be worth it.
I opened it and was surprised to see a large lot of Remco Big Ceasar Romans in red and silver. The guy wanted 20, I offered 10 and we settled on 15 bucks.
Pic 1- Red Chariot with horse, a silver horse and 3 Romans with swords.
IN Pic 2- 6 Silver Romans with spears and 1 roman figure
IN Pic 3- We have 6 Red Romans with spears
Pic 4- Another 6 more Romans with spears, All 6 have broken spears.
PIC 5 I don’t collect “army men”, so I have no idea who these are or who made them. Pretty nice sculpts and the plastic is good. The figures on the left look to be loading/firing a cannon or something. Nice figures whatever the are. (They are by New Ray.)

Pic 6 These were in a bag of Spacemen. No idea who made any of these. The bag also contained 15-20 Marx spacemen in silver and some various MPC space figures.
Pic 7 This is a Britains AWI Cannon. It originally came with two 54 mm artillerymen, which were not included in this find.
This is a much harder piece to find than the Civil War cannon,
which is more common. Both cannons are usually missing the small bucket that hangs down between the wheels. The dealer I bought it from thought that it was a pencil sharpener!
Pic 8 & 9 A Lindberg BattleFront Four model kit. I got the box, decals, instruction sheet, sprues and four tanks in this find. Tanks are 1/67 size. Good for HO, I think. Box says 1992.
Pic 10 Who didn’t have a “Barrel Of Monkeys” growing up? For a buck each, I couldn’t pass these up. Do they still make these?
Bill Nevin’s Flea Market Finds 2017 Plus Mystery Question The Question
I found this on Ebay one night. It was listed as an Ideal Alaska set. I thought that it was worth the 15 dollars and won with the only bid.
I was surprised to have the card included with the figures, as I did not see it in the original listing.
Anyway, it’s a neat little set. Some of the pieces have staple marks where the part was stapled to the header card.
The set included 6 sled dogs, so I think that I’m missing a hitch.
Anyone remember this or have further info? I would like to complete the set so I need to know what I am missing.

best.
The tree 3.5-4 inches(aprox) Archer else spaceman are reissues under Glencoe from 90s I have full set double .Others are apparently Premier originally but made by others as well or copied if not mistaken, not exactly names of brands in my mine now of last in left corner.sorry
I always found that Remco’s journey into Romans was a big disappointment, you basically got two colors of marching guys. What kid wants a ton of marching guys? I remember a kid in the neighborhood got the Big Ceasar for Xmas and he hated it, I wanted to check it out , but he was so disappointed he didn’t even want to look at it.
Ok marching figures are not exactly ‘battle’ poses but actual soldiers do a lot of marching. How else do you outflank the enemy?
As kid i will agree to and disappointed,it happen to me with most marx else brand marching poses.Yet as adult i had found field formation battle great pose for not front line sets scenes in my collection
Now the problem is they are 45 mm and i had to use then in background as not match with 54 or 60 mm at all. I end buying a huge lot over 15 years ago at ebay beginning from a sellers that apparently had then from previews collectors from a big deal ,i resold most and kept over 60 marching and few of other poses .
Also Remco are the only vintage US brand true realistic more close accurate made roman legionaries set in armor weapons and clothing made in match poses .Marx 54 and 60 mm are mix with pretorian and gladiators intermix ,Thomas Toy -tudor same .From UK Britain are trojans/greeks and one roman only ,Cresent same,Cherilea are odd made poses mix set ,Charben same ,Reamsa and Jecsan are more close as well most french sets but all over 60 mm scale in most .Atlantic and Nardi are more pretorian else than typical early empire legionaries…..
my thoughts.

What’s the story on the lancer with the musket?
A conversion no doubt.
I made a conversion similar to that figure and molded it in silicone rubber. That was about 25 years ago! I think Bryan Davis still has the mold, I wonder if that is a casting from it?
I suppose it’s possible.
I know every once in a while Joe Baker or someone else posts a picture of something and I remember converting that figure or selling that figure to them. Always somewhat of a thrill to see omething you converted in someone else’s diorama.
Nice job Bill !
The space boy with wires on head is by Archer as are the three larger figures and they look to be in vintage colors. Two smaller spacemen were made by Premier, part of a set of four figures. Two Dell dogs seem to be just extras.
