Atlantic Figure Copies. Not Done By Gulliver or Hong Kong .Erwin has found some interesting information of Atlantic Copies. As mention they are not by Gulliver of Brazil which copied the Atlantic western and World War II. Gulliver did a new pose of a German marching and 2 others . They are not from Hong Kong but were made in Italy by RES Here is Erwin’s findings.
Atlantic Figure Copies Not Done B Gulliver or Hong Kong Figures
Following figures were “presumably made” by the same artists from Atlantic but for surprise kinder type toys to the Italian company ( RES).One of the artist for Atlantic was Domenico Greco .I’m not positive if he was the same sculpting these .All poses are variation of many of original atlantic made ,some depicting odd poses .They appear in surprise candy-chocolate packing and not sold in sets as far i know.
The figures are about in same scale with original Atlantic WW2 same armies sets. Even sometimes colors were repeated but more often different odd colors such gold and silver were used well.
The amount of poses variation are unknown to me but from each army i had so far 5 to 6 poses each. 4 sets so far are confirmed been done in this series .Soviets,Germans ,American and Japanese .Some other collectors had claimed seen more poses .I can not confirm it .
Atlantic Figure Copies Not Done B Gulliver or Hong Kong
Hong Kong also copied some of the Germans and Americans poses so far and sold (stamped HK) bellow base in a small scaled than 52 mm approximately .These HK copies are a bit crude and poor in detail sold in small bags with head card .
These RES figures are top dollar by Atlantic/Italian 70-80s last generation toy soldiers collectors ,specially Italians.Photos above are from resent sale listing purchase i made to complete my collection poses .
I have several of the WW2 figures in silver and gold plastic, they are marked with the RR in a circle logo of Res Plastics. They came in capsules from vending machines in Italy, they are the same style as Atlantic but not copies, the detailing is better, in my opinion
I too have some of these figures with the RES Plastics trade mark.
Obviously the designer for Atlantic was either commissioned by, or moonlighting for RES. A bit like Ron Cameron working for both Airfix and Britains
In my case Germans are marked.
Japanese , Americans and Russian .Apparently they were also sold in other brands surprise as well.In 90s according to blogger from Italy were sold in a party store in small bags.
The deetail for me is same. Some Germans and russians have US M1 rifles. No quite right I think..
Best
I like the metallic colors.
