Pvblivs Next Offering Wild West American Trappers, yes Pvbluv is back with a new exciting set of figures. American trappers a set of six different figure just what you need for your various scenarios.
Pvblivs Next Offering Wild West American Trappers The Figures
Trappers or better known as Mountain Men traveled American Rocky Mountains from 1810 to 1880. They hunted beaver and other animals for their fur. Many famous people came from this era included Kit Carson and Jim Bridger. You can find more Mountain Men in Wikipedia
The set has six different poses
- Standing firing rifle
- Walking with rifle across his waist has either a dog or wolf laying at his feet.
- Firing rifle at his waist down. He has a hood on
- Stabbing with knife down using both hands
- Standing traps on his rifle
- Running bent over with rifle he has just lost his hat
The detail on these figures is amazing. The trapper standing firing his rifle has a phesant on his back. If you look at the back side of the trapper with rifle pointing down he has a pack. You can see more photos at warhorseminiatures.com
Pvbluvs stayed away from the coonskin hats of folklore and gives a wide variety of headwear.
The figures are 54mm and will easily work with the Marx figures.
The figures are available on Ebay at $55.00 plus postage.
Hi Paul, thank you for mention me. I like them, but they are expensive. The details are amazing, it is so tempting for me to get some. I did get the Vikings and Saxons from Pvblivs only because that is my main passion of collecting. I did also notice they are on ebay too in Metal for around $10.00 a piece. Thanks again, Mike.
Most figures poses from publius redesigned from metal tin made figures or cloned. Many of the WW Soviets are as well.
The two indian poses were done ovee two years sgo and sold by the tin maker too.
I mean two Indian set poses and the figures are not in traditional
Old 54 mm but more in the tall range close to 60 mm.
Best…
I’ve seen most of the plastic Indian figures in metal on eBay. These mountain men are neat. I like the one with the wolf at his feet. May or may not buy them. Price a little high. More interested in new Chintoys ACW generals.
Their line of TIN poses cowboys are well done poses and awesome in my view They would had been a good sale before trappers i think
Yet i see in these trappers a more ample range of historical fields from 1800 s till 1890 easy covering many regions. Some may or can be use in Europe scenes as well too.
Cowboys are in future plans..
I agree in prices .In near Future PL will also increase prices.
The problems is as far these limited run makers sell their stock quick as they been doing they will continue create this inflation and as future in this hobby is short production it will go higher very quick in others as well.
Nothing we can do about it …
My thoughts.
Best .
Well I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, just give me a plain flat base.I like the shooter but could do without the Dead Pheasant,it’s going to get ripe while he mans my Fort Superior Wall and would rather have a seperate Wolf/Dog figure. Now I have to see if I have any suitable Bears or Elks in my “Animal Bin”.
These trapper figures have great sculpting and detailing…..
but they are a bit too uniform in appearance. Except for the running pose, they look like they could all be depicting the same bearded guy.
More incredible figures I just can’t persuade myself to pay $55 for. I’ve always wanted Mountain Men in plastic. There’s a big difference between Mountain Men of the Far West and the Davy Crockett types that have been made by several companies.
Two of these figures, the clubbing man and the running man, could be used for The Alamo but the other ones are right out of the tales of Jedediah Smith and Hugh Glass.
I guess in the future, I will just be collecting old sets and completing already made ranges of figures, because the new production items are just not realistically priced. I just cannot rationalize paying $55 for six plastic toy soldiers. If they were available individually at a local hobby store for 6 or 7 dollars, I might actually buy them one or two a week, but $55 in a lump sum for 6 little plastic guys? It just seems wrong. It feels like a rip-off to me, no matter how attractive the figures are.
If you want to buy them, more power to you, but I am afraid I am out. If the Indians and the Vietnam guys didn’t get me, I don’t think anything can.
I have bought quite a few metal cowboys. Mine came in kits that are readily glued with superglue. (Funny how metal glues a lot better than a lot of plastics.) They blend in perfectly with my plastic figures after painting. Hard to tell until I pick them up and the weight gives them away. Since I have the metal figures, may not spend extra for the same figure(s) in plastic, especially if there’s a risk of breakage in shipping. Mark T., the cowboys may get you. They really are pretty nice.
Well, I’ll reserve my judgement until I see the cowboys, but 55 bucks for six plastic soldiers honestly seems ridiculous to me.
Here’s an example of one of my favorite metal cowboys:

I like them they may not be useful to me, but they are still nice and if I run into any I may buy them. The guy with the bird on his back would be useful if not for the bird. They are too expensive to convert, but they are cool
These figures are truly lovely – real works of art. I think they have crossed the mysterious line between toy soldiers/armymen and collectibles. These are collectibles – plastic variations on the gorgeous metal figures being produced in Russia. For me toy soldiers are figures you can see yourself tossing to an 11 year old to play with. Not these. So since I am chiefly interested in “play” value with figures – either rough and ready wargaming or goofing around with kids – I must take a pass on this impressive set of mountain men. As for the price, I can console myself that if I could afford to or wanted to spend $55 I could get 550 of the nice little skeleton warriors now available at Dollar General. I’ve picked up a much smaller number to do battle with my Cracker Barrel pirates or mix in with the ToysRUs pirate and skeleton bucket.
I agree, Daniel. You cannot deny that these are beautiful figures, however, what are you going to do with them? At that price, you would be hesitant to even paint them, unless you are an accomplished master, let alone convert them.
If you use them with your other figures, they are so much more detailed that they will just look wrong next to other brands, and you can’t afford enough of them and there are not enough poses to have a decent sized battle using only Pvblivs .
So you spend your $55 bucks and get figures you end up keeping on the shelf or in a box and you take them out and look at them every now and then. Just having pictures of them downloaded from the net is almost as good as owning the real thing.
the price and the distance they ship from makes it a worthless endeavor i’ve had a lot of these figures weapons break from freeze and thaw at 10 dollars per each it just isn’t worth it when tssd can put out figures with equal sculpting for 30 bucks a bag
I always wanted mountain man figures. Years ago, I did a rendezvous diorama at OTSN, with multiple trapper/pioneer figures – these would have fit in perfectly. Again, I would love them, but . . . Can anyone report on the quality of the plastic?
Plastic is reported as soft bended plastic ,same used in same indians two last set they did .
Shipping from Russia x one or two sets is actually equal to many inside US for priority mail two pounds or less in weight. You can get one or two srts x 7.00 USD shipping cost from many sellers with out protection-insurance.
however using paypal and ebay system your purchase has 100% protection covered.
Shiping from Russian by my experience is very fast and can be tracked,i had deal with many sellers, buyers and dealers from Russia recently .
The issue with plastic by this brand was corrected after many problems with previews sets and they change complete the material.
Yet the price is considerable high-typical of all short limited run mold production and not in the typical playing toy soldier type but as collectible toy soldiers figures sculpture replicas more alike.
As far i heard european are the top buyers of them by excellence and they sale well there .
My thoughts.
best.
Yes I agree, these will sell very well over here in Europe, a lot of people will baulk at the price but there will also be plenty who are prepared to pay a premium for such well sculpted and characterful poses. There wouldn’t be so much appetite for WW2 or Vietnam era here but an unusual subject like this people will enjoy painting them up whatever their ability with the paintbrush.
I have always been impressed with the Russian Federation postal system. Good prices to and from, fast service, and never a “lost” package in over 100 transactions. I hope to purchase these figures via EBAY.
anyone know if you can pick them up from a uk seller?
I heard from a reliable source that they will not wholesale to anyone outside of Russia.
That is incorrect.
I been offered these and indians as wholesale in bulk recently.yet the margin on profit versus cost after bulk shipping made me refuse the offer as I did since knights, soviets, vikings, samurai last sets I carry x sale here.
It is been also same issue w other sellers abroad beside over 5 different Russian sellers have then on ebay.
Their production amount is very limited. So is the one from PLASTIC PLATOON new vietnam set using same maker.Making distribution amount very limited as well.
Best.
Erwin, do you know how many sets a manufacturer like Pvblivs makes of figures like the mountain men? Are the molds different from those used in mass-produced toy soldiers? What happens with the molds? Would it be possible to crank out larger numbers with these molds? Jeff Imel at VictoryBuy just ran off some Lido GIs using old molds now at JLloyd. I can’t imagine how many Lido Gis those molds have produced over something like 60 years!
The runs are about 300 approximately sets when made .Not deetail on mold information I got now.
They using small machine.
Victory Buy uses standard industrial bigger machine that produce non less 2000 sets per run in about few days.
The machine like industrial require much time x cool brake interval cleaning process as they work .Are more costly and uses 220 power pulling a lot electricity.
The preparation time is extra too.
They have to use specific chemical s x cleaning and mixing w a lot measures. If modern computer programed are better and easy but those cost way more.
The require hours of pre heating before start.
Small machines either (used by small runs production)mechanical or electric are much less costly but take longer per set making .Yet cleaning proces is much more simple using proper chemicals.
Require more safety handling as many actions are done hand on it.
European s and Asian machines differ from those used here in power type on modern styles series.
Best.
Sorry regarding making large number w short run molds is hard to mention. But most short run figures are individual pose made mold cavity.
While long run mold ussualy use halve block system for several figures sets steel mold with several entrance and gas else escape lines.
Meaning you will have to adapt the mold to make it propper fit and functionality for long runs.
It depend in many other factors too as material.
Long run modern uses only steel mold.
You can not use bronze.or others material molds in it at all unless machine has a selective mode and those are few as far I had seen or know.
Best..
Erwin, here’s something I have always wondered. Is there only one single physical example of a mold that exists for a set like the Lido GI figures, for instance?
Has every Lido GI figure in the last 60 odd years come out of the exact same mold? (not counting the pirated clones of course) A soldier made in 1960 came out of the exact same mold that a figure made in 2016 came out of?
Or have there been replacements and/or multiple copies of the mold made?
Mark .
About US brands old vintage figures mold research the best x answers are Kent Sprecher and Admi=Paul.
however here is my response base in what i know.
Because many of big US brands produce x exports as well for here and the US was in 50-60s the main and top high income society for parents family w kids as Europe was recovering still from WW2 .
They made often many sets figures double mold as to produce than abroad such MARX with their factories in Germany ,UK and holland ,then in HK while others here.Yet these molds often varied a bit(in the case of Marx in germany especially ) with new poses or variation versis US molds of same sets.
In case Tim mee sailors sets we got same issue by adding poses and Gir’s earl sets too .
Now LIDO i personally did a research in other odd direction.
LIDO mold apparently got” rented-lease” to BASA PLASTICOS in Peru as they made in their own odd colors same sets of following LIDO sets.
western,Knights,ACW,ARW and Gi’s .Not German or Japanese.
Now there is a contradiction about mold been rented as it was in late 60s and early 70/s when some of these sets were still being produced here as well and figures are exact mark by even mold exit entrance marks.
That make me think, not assume please. That those molds were doubles new molds made by LIDO and not rented.
As off today the LIDO g’s-10 poses are still made in PERU from small maker with ACW who bought the mols from BASA that in late 90s close toy figures production and sold most molds. It confirm that if one mold of Gi’s is in peru now and other here in US then two molds were made by LIDO in various sets./
In mexico the LIDO are found too ,but these are slightly smaller cloned poses of same set ,not same and definitely by someone who copied the mold.
best…
A sample of Lido figures in Peru would need to be acquired to compare to the original Lido figures.
I have then admin.gis.FFLand arabs.
Erwin, thanks so much for the information! Assuming a 300 set production run really puts the price point in perspective. And it sounds as if the molds also preclude mass production. I’m in a different market, but I do appreciate these beautiful figures, and am glad that they are available to become centerpieces for some folks’ collections.
FYI – I went to look at them on eBay, and they are not pictured in the brown color, as above, but rather a shiny, funky red color. Maybe I have the wrong seller.
The pictures above are from other Russian seller.copy paste name figure set and search under toy soldier category in eBay .
Best
I can only find the red ones, as well. I’d like just the single figure with the wolf/dog on the base. Maybe I can find him in metal.
Ask sellers x other colors…
Hi guys!
At the moment, this set is only available in red.
In fact, he is not so bright, it’s just that I got such photos because of the flash – I will soon redo them. Soon it will appear in green (probably even marsh). In the brown color, only one set was made – so that its owner was lucky!
Max.
Hi guys,
New colore available.
Max.
Some beautiful sculpting !
Mine have arrived and they and the two Indian sets are outstanding. My pheasant was already a little gamey though!
What color are they?
