Expeditionary War 1812 Soldiers U.S. Infantry
Dear All, Greetings from Singapore! Very pleased to inform you of the release of three new sets in the “54mm War of 1812” range. 54 AMR 04 U.S. Infantry (Tombstone Shako) 54 AMR 04-H Militia Infantry (Top-Hat) 54 AMR 04-S Militia Infantry II (Yeoman Crown Shako) All models are supplied unpainted. As we have selected grey color for this series, the photos below are PVC test castings, not PU prototypes (at 90% product quality).
The set contains 9 model soldiers comprising of 1 officer and 8 infantrymen. The heads and arms are interchangeable to enable the assembly of at least 20 different models. The model postures are designed for two scenarios: (i) advancing/attacking; and (ii) defending/firing line.
The Anglo-American War of 1812 is a spin-off from the Napoleonic Wars then raging in Europe and other parts of the world. The Americans started the war with an invasion of Canada over the great lakes region. In many military aspects, this war is similar to the French & Indian War and the American Revolutionary War, with many actions, fought amongst the primeval forests. The main weapon remains the smoothbore musket.
Due to supply limitations, the uniforms of the American soldier is quite varied. The official dress issued in 1813 is the tombstone shako and a 10-button singled-breasted coatee with lace on the collar only. The color is to be blue but grey and brown are common. We have designed set 54 AMR 04 with the official uniform but have included two extra uniform options to allow for the historical variety.
54mm Militia Infantry (Top-Hat) = 54 AMR 04-H
During this period, the top hat has begun to replace the bicorne as the preferred headwear for men. The single-breasted coatee adopted by the U.S. in 1813 is a very popular design. With slight modification, it can be transformed into the uniforms of the Dutch-Belgians, Spanish-Portuguese, etc. We will be providing the appropriate accessories to model for these other national troops in due course.
54mm Militia Infantry II (Yeoman Crown Shako) = 54 AMR 04-S
The cylindrical shako is the uniform headdress of the US infantry from 1810 to 1813. It is also referred to as the Yeoman Crown Shako. As Militia units often provide uniforms and other supplies through their own resource, it would seem highly probable that many Militia units would have access to this surplus item from the army stores. In 1813, the cylindrical shako is replaced by the tombstone shako (referred to as the Belgic shako in British sources).
In 1813, the cylindrical shako is replaced by the tombstone shako (referred to as the Belgic shako in British sources).
Please note that the models of all three options of box-sets AMR 04 are the same except for their headdresses only. The main box-set in the series is 54 AMR 04.
Next Release
The next set in the production queue is the 54mm Pacific War Japanese Mortar set (54 PWJ 03) which is now in toolings. Chinese New Year falls on 12 February 2021. We hope to be able to release this set before the long holidays.
We will start on the British @ Far East series after the release of PWJ 03 to provide adversary for the Japanese.
Looking forward to your kind support.
Stay safe.
Cheers,
Scott
PS: This popular set, 60 PSN 06 Y, is out of stock but the toolings (mold) require repair.
We take the opportunity to enhance the accessories to allow for more comprehensive coverage of Persian heavy cavalry. These figures can also be used for the Seleucid army.
The Napoleonic Imperial Guard sets are also in progress. We will release the foot grenadiers once we find the slot for production. There will be horse grenadiers, foot artillery and command sets in the series. The sets can also be assembled as Peninsular War French in shako and Austerlitz French in bicorne. NB: The vaccine has finally arrived. Hopefully, I will be able to resume my travel soon. The one-year lock-down has truly drained my zest for life. If I have been slow in my response or service, do forgive me. I am very grateful to my colleagues in China for keeping the business rolling on its own
As usual, clean and neat and superbly sculpted. Do something with the “US” on the gear and I was thinking I could make the the “stovepipe” and “Belgic” shakos do for British Line Infantry, too – most of the British Infantry are flank troops.
so are these true 54-57mm as we are used to or the 60mm size that XF calls 54mm?
Nice ! Maybe go bigger with Napoleonic cavalry fur hat looks a bit small ?
